Patent number: 7581559Abstract: A check valve for a fluid administration system. A connector includes a housing, and first and second conduits defined by the housing, wherein the first conduit is in fluid communication with the second conduit. A check valve is disposed within the housing and includes a first body portion defining a first passageway for fluid flow, and a second body portion defining a second passageway for fluid flow. The first and second passageways are in fluid communication with one another and the second body portion is movable relative to the first body portion between first and a second positions. When the second body portion is in the first position, fluid flow may occur in a first direction, but not in a second direction substantially opposite to the first direction. When the second body portion is in the second position, fluid flow may occur in the second direction.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2004Date of Patent: September 1, 2009Assignee: Mallinckrodt Inc.Inventor: William E. Publication number: 20080200747Abstract: One aspect of the present invention is directed to a system for power filling a syringe with a radiopharmaceutical from a vial while attempting to provide low exposure to radiation, and thereafter, power injecting the radiopharmaceutical. A radiation-shielded container of the system generally holds the vial. A filling and injecting device of the system generally includes a mounting structure adapted to support the syringe with a needle of the syringe located in the vial. An electromechanical drive of the system may be commanded by a control to pull a syringe plunger through a controlled motion, thereby filling the syringe.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 16, 2006Publication date: August 21, 2008Inventors: Gary S. Wagner, Frank M. Fago, Keith M. Grispo, Chad M. Gibson, John H. Lewis, William E. Bausmith, Elaine E. Haynes, David W. Wilson, Vernon D. Ortenzi, Elaine Borgemenke

Patent number: 6648860Abstract: A syringe for injecting a fluid, such as a contrast medium for radiological diagnostic imaging, is enhanced by hydrophilic treatment of interior surfaces of the syringe, reducing air bubble attachment to the syringe. Air bubbles that do form or that are drawn into the syringe fail to attach to, or readily release from, the interior surface and can be expelled prior to being used on a patient.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2001Date of Patent: November 18, 2003Assignee: Liebel-Flarsheim CompanyInventors: Peter Staats, William E. Bausmith, III

Patent number: 5501661Abstract: A flexible wound dressing product contains a clear hydrogel material in a gel-like phase. The wound dressing product is comprised of several layers including a wound dressing, optional removable tab and optional release liner. The wound dressing comprises a thin-film layer, an adhesive layer, porous backing layer, optional support layer and a hydrogel material. The thin-film layer has a center portion and a perimeter portion. The backing layer, support layer and hydrogel material, which together form a reinforced hydrogel patch, are positioned in the center portion of the thin-film layer. The porous backing layer is formed of a porous material having sufficient porosity that the backing layer can be secured to the hydrogel material without the use of an adhesive. During manufacture, the hydrogel patch is assembled in sheet form and subsequently cut to a desired size and shape.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1995Date of Patent: March 26, 1996Assignee: New Dimensions in Medicine, Inc.Inventors: James V. Cartmell, Wayne R. Sturtevant, William E. Bausmith, III, Michael L. Wolf

Patent number: 5489262Abstract: A flexible, transparent wound dressing product contains a clear hydrogel material in a gel-like phase. The wound dressing product is comprised of several layers including a wound dressing, removable tab and release liner. The removable tab provides a grippable surface to allow for the removal of the release liner from the wound dressing and to facilitate handling of the wound dressing during application to the wound site. The tab may be comprised of a flat, double-coated paper or other suitable material, or a flexible, V-shaped member, and is removable by peeling after the wound dressing is applied. The wound dressing comprises a transparent thin-film layer, a first adhesive layer, backing layer, second adhesive layer, support layer and a hydrogel material. The transparent layer has a center portion and a perimeter portion. The backing layer, support layer and hydrogel material, which together form a reinforced hydrogel patch, are positioned in the center portion of the transparent layer.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1995Date of Patent: February 6, 1996Assignee: New Dimensions in Medicine, Inc.Inventors: James V.
