  • Patent number: 8584412
Abstract: An electrically powerable grid element having first and second conductive members of opposing polarity. The grid element includes first and second electrical access slots which expose the conductive members. The grid element includes a tap which has a conductor engaging means which forms an electrical connection with the first and second conductors via the first and second electrical access slots.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 5, 2010
Date of Patent: November 19, 2013
    Assignee: Worthington Armstrong Venture
Inventors: Sandor A. Frecska, Brian T. Patterson, William E. Beakes, Jere W. Myers, Joseph R. Woelfling

  • Patent number: 7679222
Abstract: A power and signal distribution system for the building interior and a method for operating a power and signal distribution system for the building interior are provided. The system includes a plurality of conductors adjacent to at least one surface of a plurality of support members forming a grid. The system further includes at least one shunt switch in communication with at least two conductors, the shunt switch being configurable to selectively conduct power or signals between the at least two conductors.

  • Patent number: 7661229
Abstract: A ceiling system including a grid framework having a plurality of grid elements arranged in a substantially horizontal plane. A conductive material is embedded in one of the plurality of grid elements. The grid element in which the conductive material is embedded includes at least one slot such that portions of the conductive material are exposed. A tap is attached to the grid element so that it is in alignment with the slot, and, in turn, with the conductive material. The tap includes a housing, a conductor engaging means and a tap conductor. The conductor engaging means forms a connection with the conductive material embedded in the grid element and the tap conductor.

  • Patent number: 6779627
Abstract: A fire protective flat panel radiator assembly for installation in a suspended ceiling grid is provided. The assembly includes a flat panel radiator having a frame that supports a sonic diaphragm, which is driven by a transducer to reproduce an audio program. A back box is mounted to the radiator and the back box covers and encloses the diaphragm and other fire susceptible components of the radiator. The back box is provided with a cut-out portion that is covered with an air pervious panel, which is resistant to fire hazards but that allows air flow in and out of the back box. In one embodiment, the radiator has a bridge and the back box is formed by a pair of shells mounted on each side of the bridge to enclose and protect the diaphragm. The result is a fire protected flat panel radiator assembly that meets the fire performance requirements for air handling plenums while retaining the sonic fidelity of a flat panel sound radiator without a fire protective back box.
