  • Patent number: 4701068
Abstract: A shaft assembly (11) having a spline (16) with an anti-backlash device operable due to centrifugal force to engage both sides of internal spline teeth during rotation. The spline (16) includes a main force transmitting portion (18) and a moveable spline sleeve (22) which during operation engages the side of teeth opposite the side engaged by the main force transmitting spline. Spline sleeve (22) rides on helix member to move slightly circumferentially as it is moved axially by a centrifugal force actuated member. A bar which is pinned to the spline (16) has one end which moves radially outward due to centrifugal force as the spline (16) is rotated and another end which engages and moves the spline sleeve (22) axially. When the spline sleeve (22) is moved, the splined end on the shaft assembly (11) is locked or wedged into engagement with the mating internal spline (14).

  • Patent number: 4327527
Abstract: An apparatus for adjusting the torsional output of a flexible pivot assembly is provided. The apparatus precisely rotates the flexible pivot to a maximum rotational angle at which the torsional output of the flexible pivot is trimmed to a predetermined value by an air abrasive unit. After the trimming the flexible pivot is rotated to an intermediate rotational angle and its torsional output rechecked. Electronic circuits are included to automatically control the air abrasive unit to trim output torque of the flexible pivot to its desired value, and to signify the torsional output at the intermediate rotational angle is within specifications.

  • Patent number: 4276758
Abstract: Drive shaft apparatus includes driving and driven members and primary torque transmitting means coupling the members. Redundant torque transmitting means is rendered operative for coupling said members in the event of a failure of the primary coupling means and a failure detector including electrical circuitry arranged with the redundant coupling means detects the operation thereof and provides a corresponding indication.

  • Patent number: 4171638
Abstract: A system for precisely measuring the amount of fluid discharged by a pulsating fluid flow device such as a pump, or the like. The discharged fluid is collected in a container and the amount collected is sensed by a transducer which provides a corresponding signal. The signal is processed for determining the amount of fluid collected for a predetermined number of fluid flow pulses and for automatically starting and stopping measuring cycles. The arrangement is such that continuously updated measurements are provided and are entrained in the collecting container has no effect on the measurements.
