  • Publication number: 20210339114
Abstract: A ski or snowboard edge sharpener may include an abrasive grinding wheel, a belt-driven drive train or direct drive system that connects a motor and grinding wheel drive mechanism and decreases the grinding wheel's speed of rotation relative to the speed of the motor, a grinding wheel mount allowing selection and use grinding wheels of different grits and materials and grinding wheel controls allowing the control of the cut depth and the grinding wheel angles relative to the longitudinal and transverse planes of the ski edge surface to be sharpened. In some embodiments, the sharpener may alternatively include a grinding wheel and motor that drives the grinding wheel drive mechanism. Such configurations may allow repeated sharpening of a ski edge at specific/chosen angles with a specific/chosen surface finish. • Patent number: 6929603
Abstract: A variable-view arthroscope or similar instrument (endoscope, etc.) includes a housing tube with an input end. The housing tube contains an input assembly and a portion of a light relay assembly. A control varies the position of the input assembly to change the viewing position of the arthroscope. In certain embodiments, the control uses external master magnets that rotate around an axis orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the housing to drive internal slave magnets magnetically. This permits the housing to be sealed completely. In certain embodiments, a cam-axle assembly translates the rotational motion of the internal slave magnets to linear motion that drives a push rod that manipulates the input assembly.

The housing tube contains an object input assembly and a portion of a light relay assembly. The object input assembly includes an input lens and a first mirror. In some embodiments, the object input assembly includes a second mirror, and in alternative embodiments, the object input assembly includes a prism. The object input assembly passes images received from a viewing area to an object relay assembly that transmits the image object to the control end of the arthroscope. In some embodiments, the light relay assembly is formed of two mirrored rods. A control varies the position of the object input assembly to change the a viewing position of the arthroscope. In some embodiments, the control includes a push rod driven by a slide and cam/axle assembly.

  • Patent number: 6428471
Abstract: A variable-view arthroscope or like instrument (endoscope, etc.) includes an elongated housing tube extending from an outer control end to an inner image input end that is closed by an input lens; the input lens preferably is a diverging lens. In the form shown in FIGS. 6A-6C, the input lens has a concave inner surface and a concave outer surface. A lighting apparatus illuminates a surgical working area beyond the image end of the housing tube; the illumination may be projected outwardly through the input lens. A movable mirror intercepts light reflected from the surgical working area to produce a working image that is reflected to a fixed mirror that in turn reflects the working image to impinge upon the input end of a relay lens assembly. The working image is transmitted to a receptor, which is located near the outer (control) end of the housing tube. The relay lens applies the image to an image device, such as a conventional CCD unit, that transmits the image to a location exterior to the scope.

  • Patent number: 5136433
Abstract: A positioner for accurately and precisely positioning an optical member such as a lens aligned with the tip of an optical fiber in relation to an optical device such as a beam launcher/splitter; the positioner includes a tilt base mounted in a frame and angularly displaceable about orthagonal X and Y axes defined by three ball bearings all engaging one surface of the tilt base and all biased against the tilt base. Two differential screws mounted on the frame engage two of the ball bearings to effect angular yaw and pitch adjustments. The tilt base is connected to a retainer support in turn connected to a retainer member; two additional differential screws engage the support through further ball bearings to effect linear movements of the retainer member along the X and Y axes.

  • Patent number: 4859029
Abstract: A continuously variable ratio beam splitter and beam launcher for dividing an input light beam, particularly a polarized coherent light beam, into two output beams, within a broad intensity variation range between the beams which may approach zero to 100%, without loss of polarization, comprises an optical array on a support adjustably mounted on a frame; the optical array includes an optical divider aligned with a penta prism that effectively couples the optical divider to one side surface of a right angle output prism. The optical divider and the output prism launch two output beams, based on division of the light from the input beam impinging on the optical divider. Variation of the intensity ratio of the output beams is accomplished by rotating the optical array support about a pivot point aligned with the input beam so that the input beam strikes the optical divider at different angles.

  • Patent number: 4787710
Abstract: A continuously variable ratio beam splitter for dividing an initial p-polarized coherent light beam into two polarized output beams, with a range variation of zero to 100%, comprises an optical array including a right angle input prism facing a first right angle output prism along their hypotenuses and a penta prism coupling one side surface of the input prism to a side surface of a second right angle output prism; the two output prisms produce the output beams by division of light from an input beam impinging on the other side surface of the input prism. Variation of the intensity ratio of the output beams is accomplished by rotating the array so that the input light beam strikes the hypotenuse surface of the input prism between the critical angle and the Brewster angle for that prism surface.
