  • Patent number: 10442995
Abstract: A system for the production of carbonized biomass that includes an infeed for accepting biomass feed material and an associated twin screw extruder. A water heater is connected with respect to at least one inlet along a length of the twin screw extruder and a pressure sustaining valve is connected at an outlet of the twin screw extruder.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 17, 2014
Date of Patent: October 15, 2019
    Assignee: GAS TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTE
Inventors: Larry G. Felix, William E. Farthing, James H. Irvin, Todd R. Snyder, Wei Yan
  • Patent number: 10151508
Abstract: A compact, on-demand system to produce high pressure (?5,000 psig) and high temperature (?450° C.) water or other liquids which maintains single-phase flow throughout the system utilizing low-cost, thick-wall tubing and thereby negate the requirement to design the unit as a boiler or adhere to coded pressure vessel design requirements. This design can also replace a conventional boiler for the generation of hot water as well as low and high pressure steam.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 28, 2016
Date of Patent: December 11, 2018
    Assignee: Gas Technology Institute

  • Patent number: 6685759
Abstract: A sampling system and method for sampling particulate matter from a high-temperature, high-pressure gas stream. A cyclone sampler for use at high temperatures and pressures, and having threadless sacrificial connectors is disclosed. Also disclosed is an improved cascade impactor including jet plates with integral spacers, and alignment features provided for aligning the jet plates with their associated collection substrates. An activated bauxite alkali collector is disclosed, and includes an alumina liner. The sampling system can be operated remotely or locally, and can be permanently installed or configured as a portable system.

  • Patent number: H799
Abstract: An apparatus which produces an aerosol having a narrow size distribution. e apparatus includes a supply means for providing a primary aerosol stream having a wide size distribution. Concentration means are positioned to receive the stream and this concentration means includes means for reducing volume flow rate without disregarding a proportionate fraction of the particles to provide a reduced flow rate stream. Venturi means are provided to monitor the stream and transfer the stream. Impactor means are provided for receiving the stream and introducing a core of clean air into the center of the stream. Means are provided for adjusting the relative velocities of the stream and the core to exclude particles having an inertia below a predetermined size, thereby eliminating smaller particles. Outlet impactor means are positioned to receive the stream and the core, for removing particles larger than a predetermined size.
