  • Patent number: 4678082
Abstract: A vacuum indicating thermoplastic closure for a container for the packaging of a vacuum-packed product, the top panel of the closure containing a circular inner portion which is connected to an outer annular portion by an inner annular portion with a circular hinge on the outside of the closure along a first interrupted line between the circular inner portion and the inner annular portion and another circular hinge on the inside of the closure along a second interrupted line between the inner annular portion and the outer annular portion to permit the circular inner portion to be moved relative to the outer annular portion from a first position which indicates the presence of a vacuum in the container to a second position which indicates the absence of a vacuum in the container without developing substantial tensile stresses in the top panel of the closure when the circular inner portion is in either such position, except for compressive stresses in the bridges formed by the interruptions in the first interru

  • Patent number: 4454955
Abstract: A child-resistant package comprising a container having an exteriorly threaded finish portion, and a closure comprising an inner cap member having a top panel integrally formed with a depending skirt portion having threads formed on the interior surface thereof for engagement with the finish portion of the container, and an outer member having a peripheral skirt portion surrounding the skirt portion of the inner cap member. Interengaging members between the inner cap member and the outer closure member are operable upon relative axial movement between the members to interengage the members such that rotation of the outer member will also rotate the inner member to disengage the threads of the inner member from the threads of the container.

  • Patent number: 4408700
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a unitary molded article and a method for producing a multi-part closure for assembly on the neck of a container, the closure involving an axially shiftable valve element which is movable between open and closed position. All parts of the multi-part valve element are integrally molded in a common molding cavity and the various relatively movable parts are interconnected by thin annular webs which are severed and the parts placed in proper operative condition during the assembly of the closure to the neck of a container by a conventional applicating machine.

  • Patent number: 4375859
Abstract: A child-resistant package comprising a container and a snap-on closure. The container has a neck finish including a first upper annular retaining bead and a second lower annular retaining bead spaced axially beneath the first annular bead. The first retaining bead has a notch therein and the second annular bead is continuous. An annular protective flange extends radially outwardly and is axially spaced below the second bead. The closure has a base and a peripheral skirt with a lifting tab on the outer surface thereof, a first radially inwardly extending locking lug on the inner surface thereof adjacent the external lifting tab, and at least one second radially inwardly extending locking lug located diametrically opposite from the lifting tab and axially below the plane of the first locking lug.

  • Patent number: 4168128
Abstract: An improved dual-seal, wide-surface roller-type dispensing package combination for cosmetics and the like. A wide-surface dispensing roller is held in place in a fitment which is adapted to be attached to the finish portion of a container for the product to be dispensed. The dispensing roller is allowed to revolve within the fitment to facilitate uniform dispensing and application of the contents of the container. The total package is completed by a closure which is adapted to snap into engagement with the container. A primary seal is formed between the dispensing roller and the fitment upon application of the closure. The closure also includes a quantity of resilient material, such as a foamed polymer, positioned to contact the dispensing roller and the fitment to form a secondary seal to prevent leakage of product when the closure is placed into engagement with the container.

  • Patent number: 4057159
Abstract: An improved vapor-seal, child-resistant closure and container combination is disclosed herein. The container comprises a cylindrical plastic body which is molded in one piece and has circumferentially spaced, radially extending projections on the upper end thereof that have notches therein. The closure comprises a one-piece plastic body having a top panel and an annular depending skirt with circumferentially spaced lugs extending radially inwardly for engagement with the notches. An annular integral rim or abutment is provided on the annular surface of the top panel of the closure and depends downwardly therefrom. A unique two-piece, vapor-seal liner is interposed between the annular abutment and the lugs for engagement with the upper end of the container.

  • Patent number: 3980195
Abstract: A tamper-proof closure, for a container, which requires removal of a tamper-proof ring before the container may be opened. The closure of the present invention includes a closure body which is threadably engaged with the finish portion of a container. A split tamper-proof ring is attached to the closure body at a plurality of severable locations at the root portion of a plurality of projections formed on the interior of the tamper-proof ring. A severable bridge extends between the opposed free ends of the split tamper-proof ring and connects them. The container has a series of external projections located below the threads of the finish portion. The projections of the tamper-proof ring lock with the projections on the container to prevent removal of the closure body. To remove the closure, the severable bridge is broken and the resulting free end of the tamper-proof ring is used as a pull tab to break the connections between the closure body and the tamper-proof ring.
