  • Patent number: 6687237
Abstract: A method and system to facilitate an inter-system CDMA multi-mode multi-pilot hard handoff is,provided. Reference target cell information consisting of reference target cell designations and their attributes are passed between the BS and MSC interfaces and between the serving MSC and target MSC interfaces. This invention enhances the ANSI-41 and CDG IOS A-Interface specifications to include reference target cell information. The target MSC processes the handoff request using the reference target cell information. The target MSC uses the reference target cell information to perform the handoff and other functions such as handoff retries, load balancing, and target screening. This increases the reliability of inter-system CDMA multi-mode multi-pilot hard handoffs.

  • Patent number: 6542752
Abstract: A method of reducing paging channel usage in a CDMA communication system. Each mobile switching centre maintains in its visitor location registry information regarding a paging channel or carrier frequency that each mobile station registered is monitoring. Then, when it comes time to send a page to a mobile station, the mobile switching centre looks up the information and appends it to the page which is sent to all basestation transceivers. The basestation transceivers extract the information and identify the paging channel the mobile station to which the page is addressed is monitoring. The transceivers then broadcast the page message over their air interfaces on the identified paging channel.

  • Publication number: 20020085514
Abstract: A method of moving from a 3G CDMA data session to a 2G circuit switched data session. The high-speed packet data service option of IS-2000 (3G) does not support the older low-speed IS-95 traffic channels (2G). When a mobile station, having an established high-speed packet data service call, moves from an area of 3G coverage to an area where only 2G coverage is available or where mixed 2G/3G coverage is available and the 3G coverage is congested, the call is switched from a 3G IS-2000 high-speed packet data service call to an IS-95 circuit switched data service call or an IS-707-A-5 low-speed packet data service option. The 3G call may also be terminated and re-established as an 2G call re-routed using Mobile IP.
