    Abstract: An automatic printer for making prints of normal and panoramic format negative filmstrip image frames arbitrarily interspersed in a single filmstrip. Normal and panoramic projection systems are provided for projecting normal and panoramic images onto respective projection planes of the photographic print paper. Normal and panoramic format image frames are distinguished, and the appropriate projection system is employed through the insertion or withdrawal of a first reflective mirror into the projection path of the image bearing light beam. Zoom lens systems in each projection system are set to the appropriate magnifications for the width of print paper employed. The panoramic projection system employs a precision variable conjugate controlled zoom lens in association with a second movable mirror to adjust object plane to image plane distance to avoid overlap of the normal and panoramic projection planes at each magnification for each paper width.

    Abstract: Process for vacuum impregnation of a dry fiber reinforcement with a curable resin to produce a resin-fiber composite, by drawing a vacuum to permit flow of curable liquid resin into and through a fiber reinforcement to impregnate same and curing the resin-impregnated fiber reinforcement at a sufficient temperature and pressure to effect final curing. Both vacuum and positive pressure, e.g. autoclave pressure, are applied to the dry fiber reinforcement prior to application of heat and prior to any resin flow to compact the dry fiber reinforcement, and produce a resin-fiber composite of reduced weight, thickness and resin content, and improved mechanical properties. Preferably both a vacuum and positive pressure, e.g. autoclave pressure, are also applied during final curing.

Alkali- or alkaline-earth-based sorbent is totally or partially vaporized and introduced into a sulfur-containing gas stream. The activated sorbent can be introduced in the reaction zone or the exhaust gases of a combustor or a gasifier. High efficiencies of sulfur removal can be achieved.

    Abstract: A phototimer for controlling x-ray exposure includes an array of x-ray sensors, and digital processing electronics for calculating x-ray exposure by selecting one or more signals from the x-ray sensors, and calculating the x-ray exposure from the selected signals. After calculating the x-ray exposure, the calculated exposure is employed to control the x-ray exposure either by displaying the calculated exposure to an operator who compares the calculated exposure with a desired exposure and repeats the exposure if necessary, or by automatically terminating the exposure by sending a control signal to the x-ray source. The improvement in the state of x-ray phototimer technology resides in the automatic selection of a subset of signals from a plurality of photosensors, thereby improving the reliability of the measurement. In prior art devices, the signals from a plurality of sensors were either selected manually by a switch, or all employed in a predetermined algorithm.

    Abstract: A process and system for vacuum impregnation of a fiber reinforcement, such as carbon cloth, with a resin to produce a resin-fiber composite. Liquid resin enters in arrangement or system comprising a fiber reinforcement layer on a tool or mold and is directed via a system of flow paths to impregnate the fiber reinforcement layer uniformly across the width thereof and along the length of the fiber reinforcement layer. According to one embodiment, a fiber reinforcement layer, e.g., carbon cloth, is placed on a tool. A porous paring film is applied over the fiber reinforcement layer and a bleeder layer, e.g., fiberglass, is applied over the parting film. A non-pourous film is placed over the bleeder layer, a breather cloth, e.g., fiberglass, is then applied over the non-porous film, and a vacuum bag is placed over the entire assembly and sealed to the mold surface. The fluorescent layer (a) is capable of attenuating at least 5 percent of a reference X radiation exposure produced by a Mo target tube operated at 28 kVp with a three phase power supply, wherein the reference X radiation exposure passes through 0.03 mm of Mo and 4.5 cm of poly(methyl methacrylate) to reach the fluorescent layer mounted 25 cm from a Mo anode of the target tube and attenuation is measured 50 cm beyond the fluorescent layer, (b) contains a phosphor which exhibits a conversion efficiency at least equal to that of calcium tungstate, (c) exhibits modulation transfer factors greater than those of reference curve A in FIG. 3, and (d) exhibits an optical density of less than 1.0.
