Abstract: A support for an area of a body having a hinge joint includes: a flexible, elastically stretchable framework configured to extend across the hinge joint of the area of the body; and a hinge mechanism affixed to the framework. The hinge mechanism includes a strut component and a first arm component connected to the strut component such that the first arm component is rotatable relative to the strut component only about a first pivot axis. A second arm component is connected to the strut component such that the second arm component is rotatable relative to the strut component only about a second pivot axis. The strut component is configured to extend with the framework across the hinge joint such that the first pivot axis is located on a first side of the hinge joint and the second pivot axis is located on a second, opposite side of the hinge joint.

Abstract: An orthotic device comprising a generally foot shaped body including depressable relief segments that underlie the metatarsal-phalangeal aspect of the foot and, optionally, the heel of the foot. The relief segments are provided by relieved areas cut or otherwise provided in the indicated areas of the orthotic device in such a way as to interdigitate within the device to define resilient segments that are depressed by the application of the weight of a user thereto and return to their original configuration upon removal of some or all that weight.

Abstract: A static tension device for retaining the greater toes in a dorsiflexed position to treat plantar fasciitis, while not restricting the ankle. The toes are retained in a dorsiflexed position by a tension strap and optionally, a relief in the tension strap allows the lesser toes remain in a non-dorsiflexed position. An optional stabilization strap aids in maintaining the position of the tension strap, especially when the user is ambulatory. An optional slipper aids in maintaining the position of the tension strap, especially when the user is at rest.

Abstract: A surgical knife for carpal tunnel surgeries having a housing with an adjacent light source and a light transmitting blade holder transmitting the light from the housing around the blade. The light illuminates the surgical site and assists the surgeon in precisely locating the cutting blade.
