  • Publication number: 20110247283
Abstract: A door jamb is formed having a vertical jamb member which defines a jamb opening. A replaceable jamb member is sized to be removably secured in the jamb opening by a connection element, preferably shear screws. The shear screws are formed to break or shear apart so as to release the replaceable jamb member when an effective amount of force is applied. When the shear screws break, the replaceable jamb member is free to slide out of jamb opening and release a door which is latched thereto, thus saving the surrounding jamb elements and the door itself from damage. The effective amount of force is generally the force needed to break down a conventional door.
