Patent number: 5398714Abstract: A resuscitation and inhalation device which can be used alternatively in each of two modes. The flow of oxygen or gas is controlled by a control valve, itself controlled by a movable member acted upon by the pressure of oxygen or gas in a chamber after having flowed passed the control valve. On meeting a preset maximum pressure, the valve member moves to close the control valve. The movable valve member is acted upon by a magnetic field which is adjustable, and the magnetic field strength sets the pressure at which the valve member moves. Oxygen or gas is admitted to the control valve by two alternative inlet valves, one for resuscitation with only oxygen or gas flowing through the mask, and one for inhalation, with a mixture of oxygen or gas and air or a second gas being fed through the mask.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1993Date of Patent: March 21, 1995Inventor: William E. Price

Patent number: 4675519Abstract: A toy having an optically actuated sound generator includes first and second phototransistors coupled in series for creating a substantially binary output voltage based on the relative light intensities striking such phototransistors. A Schmitt-trigger circuit receives the binary output voltage and eliminates therefrom light-flicker components resulting from fluorescent lighting. Additional circuitry creates an enabling pulse at each transition of the Schmitt-trigger output signal, which enabling signal enables dual oscillator circuits. The dual oscillator output signals are gated together to drive a speaker for creating audible signals and to activate a light emitting diode. The electronic circuitry and speaker are housed in a baffle through which the phototransistors and light emitting diode protrude for communicating with a face portion of the toy.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1986Date of Patent: June 23, 1987Inventor: William E. Patent number: 4659919Abstract: A noise-generating toy includes first and second optical sensors to detect the intensity of light in first and second optical fields, respectively. The sensor signals serve as inputs to a comparator which provides as an output a differential signal indicative of the difference between the sensor outputs. The comparator output drives an oscillator which generates audio signals in response to the differential in the intensity of light. The oscillator drives one or more speakers with the audio signals, and the speakers use the audio signals to produce audible sound or noise.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 1986Date of Patent: April 21, 1987Inventor: William E. Patent number: 4636475Abstract: An apparatus and method for monitoring stored material is disclosed. Material to be stored and monitored is placed within the innermost container of a series of nested containers and monitoring fluids are circulated in a closed loop of fluid flow through the spaces between the nested containers. Monitoring devices are used to analyze said monitoring fluids to detect leakage of the stored material from the innermost nested container and to detect the migration of external fluids into the series of nested containers. A computer based monitoring system continually checks the values of various parameters of the monitoring fluids to immediately detect and report the presence of stored material or external fluid in the monitoring fluids. The stored material may then be immediately retrieved from storage to repair leaks in the series of nested containers. The invention is particularly suited for monitoring the storage of hazardous material such as radioactive waste material.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1985Date of Patent: January 13, 1987Inventors: William E. Price, Louie A. Galloway, III, Charles B. Lowrey, Donald R. Lewis
