  • Patent number: 9480768
Abstract: An apparatus (100 and/or 200) and corresponding method (500) for air sterilization and disinfection can include an electronics and control module (110 and/or 210), a means for drawing air from the surrounding environment into the apparatus (120 and/or 220), an air management chamber (130 and/or 230), and a housing (170 and/or 270). The means for drawing air from the surrounding environment into the apparatus (120 and/or 220) mobilizes latent pathogens in the environment and draws them into the apparatus (100 and/or 200) for sterilization and disinfection. The air management chamber (130 and/or 230) provides for exposure of the airborne pathogens to UV radiation, via UV LEDs (150 and/or 250), with a dosage sufficient to penetrate the cell walls and destroy the pathogens. The electronics and control module (110 and/or 210) powers the apparatus (100 and/or 200) and interfaces with the electronic components. The housing (170) forms the outer shell of the apparatus (100).

  • Patent number: 6787782
Abstract: A system for cleaning air in a vehicle by ultraviolet light includes an exposure chamber for exposure of air to ultraviolet light. An ultraviolet light source is mounted in the exposure chamber. A collection plenum chamber is connected to a first end of the exposure chamber. An air valve is connected to the collection plenum chamber. An expansion plenum chamber is connected to a second end of the exposure chamber including passages for distribution of air to the exposure chamber. An inlet conduit connected to the expansion plenum chamber directs air to the expansion plenum chamber. The system reliably cleans air and may be packaged so as to be integrated into existing vehicle structures, such as a passenger service unit of an airplane.

  • Patent number: 6161910
Abstract: An LED reading light assembly has an optical assembly, a power circuit board, a housing, and a control system. The optical assembly includes a holographic lens and an LED assembly comprising an LED circuit board and a plurality of LED's disposed on the outward facing side of the LED circuit board. The power circuit board provides a constant source of electric current to power the LED's. The housing includes a housing plate disposed behind the LED circuit board and a black anodized fin plate. The control system includes a temperature protection circuit monitoring the ambient temperature at the LED assembly during operation and adjusting the power supplied to the LED's to maintain the ambient temperature within a selected temperature range.
