  • Patent number: 5709284
Abstract: A device for lubricating bearings and the like including a housing for containing a lubricant, and a movable piston adapted to be inserted into the housing in contact with said lubricant. The piston includes an upper concave surface, for communication of the lubricant with a bearing to be lubricated, and a passage for flow of lubricant. Compression of the piston against the lubricant causes flow of lubricant from below the piston to above the piston. An adapter, or volume-filling means, is disposed on the upper piston surface for filing a portion of a volume defined between the upper, concave piston surface and the wheel bearing. The volume-filling means includes lubricant flow passages for allowing lubricant to flow from said upper concave piston surface to the wheel bearing.

  • Patent number: 5243749
Abstract: A tool for removing a transmission pump assembly from within an automatic transmission The tool includes an adjustable driver subassembly for applying torque to a central stator shaft of an automatic transmission, and a pump tool housing includes a plurality of pump tool halves adapted to be grippingly champed about the exterior of transmission pump reaction shafts of various diameters A pump tool housing formed of two pump tool halves, preferably made of aluminum, is secured to the outside surface of the transmission pump reaction shaft by two bolt and nut assemblies. The bolt and nut assemblies are tightened to squeeze the pump tool halves onto the exterior of the transmission pump reaction shaft so that the transmission pump can be pulled centrally off of the transmission stator shaft by torque applied to the stator shaft from a drive bolt threadedly secured to the pump tool halves.

  • Patent number: 5165156
Abstract: A tool for installing and removing a clutch drum piston assembly from a planetary gear assembly and for installing and removing the planetary gear assembly within an automobile automatic transmission includes a sliding hammer arrangement and an adjustable spindle adapted to be used with clutch drum assemblies of various diameter central apertures. The adjustable spindle is formed form a plurality of elongated arcuate members radially disposed about a cylindrical member intermediate the ends of the arcuate members defining a fulcrum. An adjustment collar having a tapered interior surface is disposed about one end of the elongated arcuate members. As the adjustment collar is moved axially toward the other end of the assembly, the tapered inner surface causes the arcuate members to pivot radially outwardly about the fulcrum. A shaft is connected to the disk and extends outwardly from the collar. The outwardly extending portion of the shaft serves as a guide for a sliding hammer.

  • Patent number: 4951373
Abstract: A valve spring compressing tool including a pair of gripping leg members operatively connected to straddle a valve spring, on opposed sides. The leg members each include a gripping means disposed on a lower portion thereof for gripping an undersurface of a coil spring, and a compression member for compressing the coil spring on opposite sides thereof at points above the grippping means. The compression member is operatively interconnected to an elongated post extending to an upper portion of the tool such that rotation of the post in opposite directions will cause the compression member to move toward and away from the gripping means to compress the coil spring or allow the coil spring to expand. The elongated post includes a plurality of flattened surfaces on an upper portion thereof adapted to receive a removable handle having an internal bore adapted to be securely and removably connected through a radially extending upper portion of the elongated post.

  • Patent number: 4884914
Abstract: A support device for supporting a longitudinal member, such as a threaded rod, in a desired position with respect to the support device includes a housing adapted to receive the threaded rod, transversely within a housing aperture, and a slide axle, slideably received axially within the housing. The slide axle receives the threaded rod and is slidable within the housing to (1) a first position frictionally engaging the rod and (2) a second position disengaged from the rod so that the rod can be relatively freely moved with respect to the slide axle. The rod supporting device includes a tightening member or lock nut to secure the slide axle in a locked position whereby the rod is tightly held against a housing bearing wall defining a portion of the housing aperture. The housing bearing wall is relatively smooth so that the threaded rod is tightly held in locked position by the lock nut, while minimizing axial movement of the rod with respect to the housing.

  • Patent number: 4012161
Abstract: A rotary cutting device for removing spot welds includes an upper body section telescoping into a lower body section and a cutting bit secured in the upper body section and extending through the lower body section. The cutting bit has a flat cutting end so that a spot weld can be completely removed from one metal piece while causing no damage to the metal piece it is welded to. An expansion spring yieldably holds the cutting bit away from cutting engagement with a work piece when not in use. A stop means is provided for controllably limiting the potential downward movement of the cutting bit during use. Two pointed projections extend from the distal cutting end of the device for engaging the work piece to keep the device in proper alignment with the spot weld during cutting.
