  • Patent number: 6634082
Abstract: A method for making a carbon commutator assembly by forming an annular carbon cylinder of a conductive carbon composition and metalizing an inner surface of the carbon cylinder by bonding a first layer of metallic material to the inner surface of the carbon cylinder. A metallic substrate is soldered to the metalized inner surface of the carbon cylinder and an insulator hub is disposed in a position supporting the metallic substrate and carbon cylinder. The carbon cylinder and substrate are then segmented by forming radial interstices through the carbon cylinder and the metallic substrate thus forming a carbon/metal commutator array comprising electrically isolated carbon/metal commutator sectors.

  • Patent number: 6281649
Abstract: A dual motor windshield wiper system and windshield washer system integrated together into a single assembly. The system includes two motors (22, 22′), a control circuit (12), a fluid reservoir (120), a pump (112), and at least one mounting member (108, 108′) that supports said motors. The reservoir can be located between the two motors and can be supported in place by the motors. The motors can be thermally coupled to the reservoir so that fluid within the reservoir acts as a heat sink for the motors. The positions of the wipers can be controlled to follow targeted positions that are determined in accordance with acceleration, velocity, and deceleration values that are calculated using a wiper speed setting selected by the vehicle driver.

  • Patent number: 5932949
Abstract: A carbon-segment face commutator assembly for an electric motor includes an annular array of copper conductor sections stamped from a single copper blank. The annular array is overmolded with an electrical-conducting resin-bonded carbon composition that mechanically interlocks the conductor sections and defines a circular commutating surface. During overmolding, radial grooves are formed in a bottom surface of the carbon overmold opposite the commutating surface. An annular hub is then formed by overmolding an insulator material around and under the carbon overmold and the conductor section array. The hub insulator material flows into the radial grooves of the carbon overmold and leaves only the circular-commutating surface exposed. The carbon overmold is formed into an annular array of eight electrically-isolated carbon segments by machining radial slots inward from the commutating surface of the carbon overmold to the underlying radial grooves.

  • Patent number: 5530311
Abstract: A face type commutator (10) includes a hat shaped member (12) and an insulator hub (14) with an armature axis of rotation (22). The hat shaped member (12) has a plate portion (24) with a brush contact surface (26) in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation (22) and a cylindrical portion (16) that extends axially from the brush contact surface and defines a cavity (46). The hub (14) fills the cavity (46) and slots (42) in the cylindrical portion (16). Grooves (70) divide the plate portion (24) into a plurality of collector segments (72). A cylindrical sealing surface (76) is formed on the cylindrical portion (16) and portions of the hub (14) below the grooves (70). Tangs (30) integral with the cylindrical portion (16) below the cylindrical sealing surface (76) each have a radially extending leg portion (32) and a foot portion (34) that extends circumferentially from both sides of the leg portion to hold armature coil wires (40) on the leg portion.

  • Patent number: 5102602
Abstract: An improved adjustable diehead assembly for mounting on a plastic extrusion machine is described. A discharge orifice for a parison of plastic is formed by a mandrel and annular member. The annular member is moveable by a holder assembly perpendicular to axis of the mandrel to adjust the orifice. The holder assembly includes cams which act upon the opposed sections of the outside surface of the annular member to adjust the orifice when first and second screws are tightened. A third screw acts upon the annular member to adjust the orifice. The screws are mounted on a front part of the holder assembly on the diehead to allow adjustment of the orifice even when the extrusion machine is operating.

  • Patent number: 4770624
Abstract: A vertical plastic parison extruder with a relatively short vertical height and an adjustable choke between the extrusion screw and the extrusion die. The choke, in combination with a vertically moveable mandrel extending into the extrusion die, frictionally dissipates the rotational component of the moving viscous plastic between the extrusion screw and the exit of the extrusion die. The relatively short length and large diameter of the extrusion screw permits the moveable mandrel to extend through the extrusion screw and eliminates the need for lateral support of the extrusion screw and mandrel below the material feed entrance to the extrusion screw. The extrusion screw length to diameter ratio is adjusted to provide the same residence time for plasticizing the feed material as with the normally smaller diameter and longer extrusion screws.

  • Patent number: 4673347
Abstract: A multiple station, multiple clamp assembly rotary blow molding machine for the manufacture of plastic bottles and the like incorporating novel toggle actuation means for the clamp assemblies, novel actuation means for the pre-finish mechanism and novel actuation means for parison stretching. The novel toggle actuation means for the clamp assemblies eliminate the need for separate linear or rotary hydraulically driven clamp actuators for each clamp assembly. Rather, a single rotary actuator is required for the mold closing station and a second single rotary actuator is required for the mold opening station. The toggle linkage includes adjustment means for fine adjusting the length of each toggle linkage. The clamp assemblies include spring means for assuring complete overcentering action of the toggle linkages to thereby provide a positive latching or locking of the clamp assemblies and molds in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4589838
Abstract: Improvements in the mold opening and closing actuator mechanism in a multiple station, multiple clamp assembly rotary blow molding machine for the manufacture of plastic bottles and the like and improvements in the automatic unloader mechanism for the machine. In a rotary machine having an even number of stations and clamp assemblies rotatably indexable from station to station, the clamp assemblies are closed and opened by rotatable cranks and toggle mechanisms. Adjacent clamp assemblies are opened and closed by rotating the respective cranks in opposite directions for either the closing or the opening movements of the clamp assemblies. Rotary actuators at the mold closing and mold opening stations rotate 180.degree. to actuate the clamp assemblies. By providing the above opposite rotational actuation of adjacent clamp assemblies the need to reverse or retract the rotary actuators during indexing of the clamp assemblies is eliminated as is the time required to reverse or retract.

  • Patent number: 4582474
Abstract: An in-mold label dispenser (20) for a plastic blow molding machine of the rotary wheel type is disclosed as including a base (50) on which a carrier arm (52) is pivotally mounted by a support (58) to swing a dispensing head (60) on the carrier arm along a curved path between withdrawn and inserted positions with respect to mold sections (32) of an adjacent open mold (28) on the machine wheel (24). At least one label carrier (62) is mounted on the dispensing head for movement between retracted and extended positions, and at least one label magazine (64) is located adjacent the dispensing head with the carrier arm in the withdrawn position. A drive mechanism (66) of the label dispenser (20) includes a first drive (68) that pivotally moves the carrier arm and also includes a second drive (70) that moves each label carrier between the retracted and extended positions during cyclical operation that transfers labels from the label magazine to the molds on the machine wheel.

  • Patent number: 4126658
Abstract: An improved method of blow molding bottles of thermoplastic material wherein intermittent extrusion apparatus is employed to produce bottles with finished necks free of external blemishes, the method including the steps of intermittently extruding tubular parisons from an annular orifice, enclosing the first tubular parison in a mold that has an interior cavity that defines the bottle and also defines a dome radiating outward from the upper end of the bottle neck, immediately blowing the parison essentially to the shape of the cavity, but as an incident to the blowing of the parison and to the interruption of the extrusion, causing the thermoplastic material to be severed at the extrusion orifice, and immediately shifting the mold enclosed article to a shaping station while the article is still at a temperature sufficient for subsequent shaping operations, and at the shaping station finish blowing the article while trimming and at least partially compression-molding the neck.
