  • Patent number: 10745820
Abstract: A method and system for manufacturing an optical article is provided. The method may comprise providing at least one ophthalmic lens substrate having a surface; applying at least one conductive coating on at least a portion the ophthalmic lens substrate; and electroplating the ophthalmic lens substrate to form a plating layer that is in a contacting relationship with the conductive coating of the optical article. Other layers may also be applied.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: August 18, 2020
    Assignee: Essilor International
    Inventor: William Eagerton
  • Patent number: 10705260
Abstract: An optical device and method for manufacturing the optical device is provided. The optical device comprises an optical article having a substrate, a primer layer, and a hard multi-coat (HMC). The HMC comprises at least one layer. At least one of the layers, the substrate, and the HMC comprises at least one carbon allotrope that is absorbed by diffusion. The method of manufacturing involves combining and organic solvent and deionized water to form a solution, mixing into the solution at least one carbon allotrope, applying sonication to the solution an optical article comprising at least one of a substrate, a primer layer on the substrate, and a HMC, immersing and then withdrawing the optical article from the solution, withdrawing the optical article from the solution, and evaporating excess liquid from the solution.

  • Publication number: 20100102025
Abstract: A method for marking an ophthalmic substrate or other ophthalmic article comprising the steps of providing an ophthalmic substrate of suitable organic or mineral glass having opposed optical surfaces; depositing a plurality of layers to define coatings on one or both of the opposed optical surface with anti-impact, anti-scratch, anti-reflection and/or anti-smudge properties, at least one of the layers being an electrically conductive layer; providing a mask defining a configuration complementary to the desired marking for one of the surface of the coated ophthalmic substrate and positioning the mask in the immediate proximity of the ophthalmic substrate surface; and providing an ion source and directing the ion beam from the ion source masked surface of the ophthalmic substrate to remove at least a portion of an outermost one of the coating layers exposed through the mask thereby producing a desired marking on the substrate surface coating rendered visible by fogging.
