  • Publication number: 20240150172
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods of producing a gas at a controlled rate, the methods comprising directing air through a layered bed to produce a gas. The layered bed comprises alternating layers of a layer of dry particles comprising a precursor and a layer of dry particles comprising a proton-generating species. The gas is produced at a rate that is controlled by controlling the presence or absence of air flowing though the layered bed, the amount of time the air flows through the layered bed, the total number of layers in the layered bed, the average thickness of each of the layers of dry particles comprising the precursor in the layered bed, the average thickness of each of the layers of dry particles comprising the proton-generating species in the layered bed, the temperature the method is performed at, or a combination thereof.

  • Publication number: 20240085148
Abstract: The bear spray holster with sound alarm is intended to prevent bear attacks on humans. The holster includes a cylindrical body for securing an aerosol canister and a portable alarm. In addition, the holster includes a pull strap that is configured to connect the canister to the detachable pull ring on the portable alarm. By securing both ends of the pull strap, the portable alarm activates when the canister is removed from the cylindrical body. During a bear encounter, the user can easily remove the canister from the holster and activate the portable alarm, all in one motion. Although bears typically hold their breath during a short-range charge or assault, the sound of the alarm disrupts the bear's breathing pattern. This disruption gives the user the best opportunity to spray in the direction of the bear, causing the bear to inhale more of the chemical repellant and retreat.

  • Patent number: 10711452
Abstract: Linear elements and connectors define the parts used by this building system to manufacture and/or form modules and multimodular structures. The linear elements and connectors meet and interact to form physical structures that can function as adaptable behavioral networks. At the junctures where linear elements and connectors meet, a plurality of interface mechanisms allow information transfer and/or form reversible structural changes within the modules and/or multimodular network structures built using this system. Structural changes within or between the fundamental digital elements making up a network structure may lead to the morphing of the greater structure. The fundamental digital elements are linear elements. The connectors allow the meeting/binding of digital elements. The connectors and linear elements act as structural and behavioral actuators that interface within the network structure they compose.

  • Publication number: 20160071433
Abstract: A system of construction that uses a discrete repertoire of elastic modular units that interconnect forming assemblies of diverse curved geometries applicable at any scale. Each modular unit is formed with linear elements with less than infinite elastic modulus. The modular units connect to one another under tension creating structural networks that have stored elastic potential energy. The linear elements may be formed of carbon based composite materials and their future permutations, including smart materials. The modular assemblies created using this system have application in terrestrial, space and aquatic environments and as an educational tool.

  • Publication number: 20150371556
Abstract: This describes a system of construction that uses a discrete repertoire of elastic modules that interconnect forming assemblies of diverse curved geometries applicable at any scale. The component module's structure is linear in character, geometrically elemental and made of discrete components. The linear components that make up the modules' structure are composed of material with less than infinite elastic modulus. The modules connect to one another under tension creating structural networks that have stored elastic potential energy. The diversity of this system's possible geometric structural outcomes is statistically vast. Such geometries can range from discrete to quasicrystaline and suit many current and future structural applications. The combination of having the properties of stored elastic potential energy and diverse structural geometric outcomes is advantageous when designing morphable/adaptable structures using tunable materials.
