  • Publication number: 20190264753
Abstract: Linear actuator mechanisms (100) for vehicle disconnect/connect systems having a stationary guide rod (122); a shift fork (118) the stationary guide rod extends therethough; a drive nut (110); a drive screw (120) extending through the drive nut; a first spring plate (114), a second spring plate (116), and a compression spring (112) positioned between a radially extending portion of the first spring plate and a radially extending portion of the second spring plate. A second radially extending portion of the first spring plate and a second radially extending portion of the second spring plate are in contact with the drive nut on axially opposite sides of the drive nut. The first and second spring plates are moveable axially along the stationary guide rod by the drive nut to compress the compression spring.

  • Publication number: 20190154147
Abstract: Devices and methods are provided herein for the transmission of power in motor vehicles. Power is transmitted in a smoother and more efficient manner by splitting torque into two or more torque paths. A continuously variable transmission is provided with a ball variator assembly having an array of balls, a planetary gear set coupled thereto and an arrangement of rotatable shafts with multiple gears and clutches that extend the ratio range of the variator. In some embodiments, clutches are coupled to the gear sets to enable shifting of gear modes. In some embodiments, the speed ratio of the ball variator is adjusted in concert with the adjustment of clutches.

  • Publication number: 20170089434
Abstract: A continuously variable ball planetary variator comprising a main shaft, an input ring, an output ring, carriers and planets, and further comprising an improved idler support bearing capable of handling axial movement and higher differential rotational speeds between the main shaft and the idler assembly inner race. One improvement includes a continuously variable ball planetary variator comprising a main shaft, an input ring, an output ring, carriers and planets with an improved idler support bearing comprising; an idler bearing with an inner bearing race and an outer bearing race, wherein one bearing race is a split bearing race and one bearing race is a cylindrical bearing race, wherein the split bearing race has a preload between the bearings, and wherein the cylindrical bearing race allows axial movement of the idler assembly, and wherein the idler bearings comprise radial ball bearings to achieve said axial movement.

  • Patent number: 5916057
Abstract: In an infinitely variable traction roller transmission wherein two toric traction disks are rotatably supported opposite each other so as to define a toric cavity in which at least two traction rollers are disposed in engagement with the two toric disks, the toric disks have, in a plane receiving the axis of rotation of the toric traction disks, a curvature wherein their tangents at the points of contact with the traction rollers intersect on the axis of rotation of the toric disks along with the axis of rotation of the traction roller and the traction rollers are supported by support means including a guide wheel which moves along a guide track during pivoting of the support means so as to maintain engagement between the traction rollers and the toric disks in all pivot positions of the traction rollers.
