Means are provided for controlling and reconfiguring power outlets and lighting at an intermediate level, with greater control and flexibility than is available in traditionally wired buildings, without the complexity and expense associated with many automation system approaches. These approaches also provide an easily upgradeable path from a relatively simple basic system configuration to a fully automation system configuration.
