  • Patent number: 4036870
Abstract: In the catalytic reaction of saturated lower aliphatic hydrocarbons, e.g. propane, isobutane, with oxygen and ammonia in gas phase in contact with solid metal oxide catalysts, conversion of the hydrocarbon and selectivity of conversion to .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated nitrile are improved by using a catalyst comprising a fluxing agent, e.g. phosphoric acid to maintain the catalytic metal oxide e.g. molybdenum oxide in a non-crystalline state.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 2, 1971
Date of Patent: July 19, 1977
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
Inventors: George Augustus Castellion, William Frank Marzluff
  • Patent number: 3944609
Abstract: Homogeneous catalyst for hydration of nitriles to produce amides comprises reduced copper with at least 0.2 percent by weight of reduced iron. Preferred catalysts prepared by reduction of copper and iron compounds with borohydride reducing agent have improved stability of catalytic activity during storage as compared with copper catalysts made without iron.

Date of Patent: March 16, 1976
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
Inventors: John Allan Fetchin, William Frank Marzluff
