  • Patent number: 4032130
Abstract: A device for assembling pieces of picture frame molding to form a picture frame therefrom and particularly suited for relatively small "miniature" picture frames which are held together by gluing. The pieces of molding have glue applied to the end portions thereof and are thereafter held in assembled relation at the corners of the frame by respective corner blocks. The corner blocks are supported on a base member, with magnets being employed to permit adjusting the position of the corner blocks on the base member for accommodating pieces of molding of various lengths. Once the pieces of molding are positioned in assembled relation and clamped in place by the corner blocks, one or more elastic bands may be placed around the frame. The thus assembled frame may then be removed from the framing device and placed aside while the glue sets, freeing the framing device for assembling another frame.

  • Patent number: 3986420
Abstract: Clamp mechanism for use in maintaining a workpiece in desired position against a stationary backstop including a clamping member mounted for free linear movement for being positioned in engagement with the workpiece regardless of the dimensions thereof and a camming and locking device for selectively engaging and camming the clamping member to apply a desired clamping force to the workpiece and for locking the clamping member against the free linear movement thereof in the cammed position. This preferred clamp mechanism may be utilized in an apparatus for cutting the ends of workpieces, e.g. mitered end picture frame moldings, and which includes a table top linearly movably mounted on a support frame and having a longitudinally extending slot therein and a saw mounted in fixed position within a portion of the table top slot.

  • Patent number: 3941020
Abstract: Apparatus for easily and quickly cutting with mininum waste workpieces, such as components for making mitered corner picture frames, from an elongate strip of material of any predetermined width, in which each workpiece has opposing ends which are equally and oppositely angled with respect to each other and an inside edge of predetermined length, as follows. A guide device positions the elongate strip of material at desired positions along a longitudinally extending axis. A saw makes spaced, successive, angular, parallel cuts through the elongate strip to form workpieces with parallel angular cut ends and thereafter cuts off and removes a wastepiece from one end of each cut workpiece by making an oppositely angled cut.
