  • Patent number: 6539023
Abstract: An apparatus for handling back-to-back maintenance messages in extended superframe t1 telephone circuits includes a FIFO, a byte counter, and a message length register. According toga method of the invention, when messages are placed in the. FIFO, the byte counter counts the message length and places the message length in the message length register. A host controller is required to read the message length register in the time interval following complete receipt of a first message before complete receipt of a second message, but is only required to read the contents of the FIFO before it overflows. According to a presently preferred embodiment of the apparatus, a second register is provided for indicating the current depth of the FIFO. The second register sends an interrupt to the host controller when the contents of the FIFO exceed a threshold.

  • Patent number: 6456595
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reliably detecting both AIS and AIS-CI signals in the presence of a bit error ratio up to 1×10−3 includes an AIS detector having an AIS indication output, a CI detector having a CI indication output, and a two signal AND gate having its inputs coupled to the respective outputs of the detectors and having an output indicative of an AIS-CI detection. The AIS detector has an adjustable zero threshold and the CI detector has a threshold output coupled to the AIS detector for adjusting the zero threshold. According to the method of the invention, the AIS detector zero threshold is normally set at the normal threshold (1×10−3) but is reset to a higher threshold (e.g., 2×10−3) when the CI detector detects the presence of the CI code word.

  • Patent number: 5568060
Abstract: Circuit board insertion circuitry is used in conjunction with a staggered electrical connector. The insertion circuitry includes an isolated circuit which receives a high system voltage upon first stage contact between the card and a high voltage bus, and uses that high system voltage to tristate the output of a transceiver on the circuit board prior to second stage contact being made between the transceiver and the backplane data bus. Override circuitry for overriding the tristating effects of the isolating circuit are provided such that when the bias circuit which controls the transceiver output is properly powered, the bias circuit will control the transceiver output, and not the isolated circuit. Additional circuitry which isolates the circuit board so that a power fault on the board will not impact other boards on the backplane is also provided.

  • Patent number: 4598396
Abstract: A duplex digital transmitter system is disclosed which permits simultaneous digital signal exchange over a two-wire loop. Two sets are provided at the ends of the loop, each having a three-port lattice adapted to separate the transmitted and received digital signals. The digital signals are encoded using a biphase scheme so that they have a zero D.C. component. Therefore the loop is used simultaneously to transmit D.C. power from one set to the other.

  • Patent number: 4207433
Abstract: An arrangement is described for testing a communication path to a 2-wire analog line through a time-division multiplexed switching system, wherein each analog line is coupled to the system by a hybrid circuit which provide separate transmit and receive paths. A digital tone source is coupled to a time-division bus of the system such that the digital tone source transmits signals toward the line on the receive path. A ring relay associated with the line is operated to produce an open circuit condition between the hybrid circuit and the line. The open circuit alters the transhybrid loss of the hybrid circuit such that the signals on the receive path are reflected back toward the time-division bus on the transmit path. A digital tone detector is coupled to the transmit path such that the reflected signals may be detected.

  • Patent number: 4127742
Abstract: A telecommunications system which is capable of implementation in many configurations. The simplest and smallest configuration is that of a single processor-controlled module or unit using time division switching. Within a module, a processor and its attendant memory provide program memory and control the functioning of an automatic scanner driver, the automatic scanner driver interfacing between the processor and the system terminal circuits. In addition the automatic scanner driver has capability of storing temporary information during call processing through a time division switching network. For configuring larger systems, plural modular units are combined, the units being combined with control elements common to the system such as a control processor, including memory and a processor to module interface and module to module interface. The common elements act to control the feeding of information between modules.
