  • Patent number: 11674360
Abstract: A tool for use in suspending operation of an oil or gas well driven by an artificial lift with a polished rod connected to a sucker rod in a tubing string. The tool includes a body having a lower narrow portion dimensioned to fit within the interior cavity of a tubing string inlet or an upper extension thereof, and an upper wide diameter portion defining a substantially horizontal landing surface dimensioned to rest upon the top edge of the tubing string inlet or the upper extension thereof. The tool includes one or more sucker rod-engaging structures and one or more longitudinal slots extending through the lower narrow portion and the upper wide diameter portion to allow passage of fluid or gas through the tool when the tool is supported on the top edge of the tubing string inlet or the upper extension thereof.

  • Patent number: 10907422
Abstract: The support tool described includes a body with a lower narrow portion dimensioned to fit within the interior cavity of a tubing string inlet or an upper wellhead extension thereof. The body has an upper wide diameter portion defining a landing surface substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the support tool. The landing surface is dimensioned to rest upon the top edge of the tubing string inlet or the upper wellhead extension thereof. The body includes a central interior longitudinal cavity spanning the length of the tool which is continuous with a longitudinal slot in the outer sidewall of the tool spanning the length of the tool. A sucker rod is held within the longitudinal cavity when the tool is supported on the top edge of the tubing string inlet or an upper wellhead extension thereof.

  • Publication number: 20190055794
Abstract: A method for supporting a sucker rod string and associated downhole pumping equipment on a tubing string inlet or an upper extension thereof, during preparation of a wellhead for suspension of an oil or gas well includes the steps of: a) lifting and supporting the sucker rod string and partially disassembling the wellhead to expose an uphole end of the sucker rod assembly; b) engaging a support tool to a portion of the uphole end of the sucker rod assembly; and (c) lowering the sucker rod string into the tubing string inlet or the upper extension thereof, until the lower narrow portion enters the tubing string inlet or the upper extension thereof, and the landing surface of the support tool rests upon the top edge of the tubing string inlet or the top edge of the upper extension thereof.

  • Publication number: 20040195006
Abstract: The invention provides an under-reamer tool and method for creating a large diameter volume within a well bore. The under-reamer tool includes a mandrel for connection to a drill pipe and for supporting a torque arm assembly and hole initiator assembly. The hole initiator assembly, upon activation, creates a nominally larger diameter volume that triggers activation of the torque arm assembly thereby allowing the torque arm assembly to extend to cut away a cutting face thereby creating a significantly larger diameter volume within the wellbore as the under-reamer is rotated within the wellbore. Reverse circulation of a circulation medium in combination with the geometry of the cutting face provides effective removal of the cuttings from the cutting face.
