  • Patent number: 6035754
Abstract: A compound miter saw includes a table on which a workpiece is placed, a miter saw unit supporting a saw blade, and a housing pivotally supporting the miter saw unit related to the table in such a manner that the miter saw unit is at least laterally pivotable. Further, the miter saw includes a bevel mechanism for selectively determining the lateral position of the miter saw unit at any of a plurality of pivoted positions, including a vertical position where the saw blade is positioned substantially vertically relative to the table, and leftward and rightward pivoted positions where the blade is inclined laterally leftwardly and laterally rightwardly from the vertical position. The bevel mechanism includes a movable rod and three fixed stop members, the rod being operable to move between a first rod position abutting one of the fixed stop members and a second rod position not abutting the one of the fixed stop members so as to permit the lateral pivotal movement of the miter saw unit.

  • Patent number: 5984022
Abstract: An automatic shaft lock is incorporated into the transmission or drive components of a power driving tool of the type commonly used to tighten or loosen threaded fasteners, for example. The automatic shaft lock operates to prevent an externally-applied rotational back-force or back-torque, such as results from use of the tool to manually tighten or loosen a fastener, from being transmitted all the way through the drive components to the tool's motor or armature shaft. The shaft lock also effectively reduces the amount of back-torque, functioning automatically in either rotational direction, due to being disposed at an intermediate location in the drive train, between an intermediate gear enmeshed for driving rotation with the tool's armature shaft and an output gear enmeshed in a driving relationship with the tool's output shaft.

  • Patent number: 5951026
Abstract: A removable chuck has a chuck member for holding a drill bit. Also, a mechanism is coupled with the chuck body to retain the chuck body to a drill spindle. The retention mechanism, in a first position, retains the chuck on the drill spindle and in a second position the release mechanism enables the chuck to be removed from the spindle.

  • Patent number: 4983080
Abstract: A tool bit such as a screw driving bit for use with a rotary power tool is conventiently stored in a cavity in the rotary power tool housing when not in use in a power tool chuck. The tool bit is retained in the recess by frictional engagement with a retainer spring. A push-button protruding from the rotary tool housing communicates with the bit holding cavity and retainer spring in a manner such that, upon depression of the push-button, the retainer spring is moved out of frictional engagement with the bit to enable its release from the storage cavity.
