  • Patent number: 4649747
Abstract: A hydrometer unit permanently connected in an engine coolant line enables an immediate visual check on the adequacy of the anti-freeze constituent, such as ethylene glycol, in the system. The hydrometer includes a coolant receiving chamber having a transparent viewing portion and a number of variously colored float elements within the chamber provide an accurate indication of anti-freeze strength based on specific gravity. No manipulation of the hydrometer is required to enable a checking of the strength or weakness of the anti-freeze.
