  • Patent number: 4885508
Abstract: An electronic control system employing logical control for controlling a gas vapor arc globe. Power from a power source such as an AC power line or DC or AC generator is connected by a control switch to a logical control circuit which initially activates the igniter for the globe. In the event that the igniter does not cause the globe to ignite a control signal is provided to turn the power off. The voltage for operating the globe is boosted by means of a boost voltage generator to a substantially higher voltage than that of the power source. The operating voltage for the globe is generated by means of a multivibrator which runs at a relatively low frequency and a pulse width modulator which runs at a high audio frequency. The square wave output of the multivibrator (typically 60 Hz) is modulated by the pulse output of the pulse width modulator (typically 20 KHz) to provide a square wave DC to the globe modulated by high frequency rectangular pulses having a width which determines the intensity of the globe.

  • Patent number: 4628230
Abstract: A regulated light dimmer control circuit which is particularly suitable for use in controlling the level of illumination of lights in a sound stage environment such as a motion picture set television studio or sound studio. A variable D.C. voltage source is utilized as the dimmer control usually located within the studio and manually controlled by an operator. The D.C. output of the dimmer control is fed to a voltage regulator and controller which receives an output from a timing circuit having a periodic waveform output which is synchronized with the A.C. power line and provides a trigger signal for a solid state relay when the D.C. fed from the dimmer control to the voltage controller is equal to or greater than the output of the timing circuit. Thus, the solid state relay will be fired for a portion of the A.C. period which is in accordance with the D.C. voltage set on the dimmer control. A.C.

  • Patent number: 4450384
Abstract: A light dimmer control system for controlling the current supplied from a DC power source to high power illuminating lamps. The current fed to the lamp is controlled by manually setting the width of the pulsed output of a pulse width modulator by means of a potentiometer or the like appropriately connected to the pulse width modulator. The output of the pulse width modulator drives an output driver circuit which is connected in series with the current path to the lamp. The lamp power is provided from a DC source which is controlled by the output driver circuit in series with the lamp. The power for the semiconductor components of the DC controller, which includes the pulse width modulator, is provided from the same DC source and stepped down by a DC-DC converter. A logical control circuit is employed which enables the energization of the system only when both the polarity of the DC input supply is correct and the low voltage DC is on, thereby minimizing the possibility of damaging system components.
