  • Patent number: 5092203
Abstract: A wrench, such as a socket, for a torquing device, such as a ratchet wrench for cooperating with a fastener, such as a nut or bolt. The fastener has plurality of faces that join each other at respective edges. The fastener also has radii that are measured from the center of the fastener to the respective faces thereof, a first radius from the center of the fastener which is normal to the face of the fastener; a second radius at an angle of approximately 15.degree. from the first radius and a third radius at an angle of approximately 15.degree. plus a flank angle from the first radius. The coupling element includes a plurality of adjoining surfaces. Each surface includes an adjoining flank section at each end thereof that is angled with respect to the surface in a direction away from the corner of the fastener, the angle being the flank angle.

  • Patent number: 4969231
Abstract: A handle for a hand tool having a tool portion to which the handle is secured rearwardly thereof. The handle has a substantially polygonally shaped cross-section to prevent rolling of the tool. An elastomeric sleeve having ribs thereon is disposed over the handle to facilitate gripping thereof even in greasy and oily conditions. A plurality of pockets are formed in the rearward portion of the handle opposite to the tool portion. An end cap having a plurality of complementary studs is disposed over and secured to the rearward portion of the handle so that each stud is received in and secured in a respective pocket. The end cap is color-coded and/or otherwise provided with indicia means to facilitate user recognition and selection thereof. In another embodiment, the end cap is integral with handle portion.

  • Patent number: 4800786
Abstract: A molded elastomeric sleeve is secured on the rear portion of a conventional socket for a hand ratchet wrench. Size indicia are carried by the sleeve for ready identification of the socket, and knurls on the sleeve facilitate a manual gripping of the socket for rotation thereof, whenever desired. In a preferred embodiment, the sleeve has a readily-projecting boss provided with a rim and a recess therein. A pressure-sensitive adhesive label, which carries the size indicia, is disposed within the recess below the rim on the boss. An internal annular groove is formed in the sleeve adjacent to the socket, and an adhesive is injected into the internal annular groove via at least one passageway formed in the sleeve. The passageway opens into the recess in the boss on the socket, and the passageway is subsequently covered by the pressure-sensitive adhesive label.

  • Patent number: 4724730
Abstract: A cam lock socket has a plurality of pins having substantially oval-shaped cross-sections. The pins are received in complementary axially-extending circumferentially-spaced scalloped recesses formed in the socket body. When the socket is rotated in one direction or another, the pins are cammed out of their respective recesses to tighten on a nut (or the head of a bolt or stud). Means are provided for retaining the pins axially and radially in the socket body, and to preclude the pins from tilting about their respective longitudinal axes.In one embodiment, outwardly-extending fins on the pins are received in an internal annular groove formed in the socket body, and a resilient retaining ring is received in slots formed on the inside of pins. In another embodiment, a flanged bushing is mounted in the bore of the socket body and cooperates with inwardly-extending fins on the pins. The flange on the bushing carries a resilient O-ring which bears against the respective pins.

  • Patent number: 4086828
Abstract: A manually-operable tool is provided for insertion between the inboard and outboard caliper-mounted disc brake pads for the purpose of spreading the pads to facilitate placement over the rotor. The tool employs a screw having an elongated partially-threaded shank and a handle at the rearward end for manually rotating the screw about its axis. Supported on a non-threaded portion of the screw shank is a pivot-stud body having pivot studs extending laterally in opposite directions. Supported on the pivot studs, on each side of the screw shank, is a pair of scissor-like jaw levers or spreaders. Supported for sliding movement on the screw shank rearward of the pivot-stud body, i.e., between the pivot-stud and the shoulder of the handle, is a shoulder-stud body having camming studs extending laterally in opposite directions into the rearward jaw openings of the scissor-like spreaders.

  • Patent number: 4041609
Abstract: A foot control for a dental unit having a control unit for the delivery of power to operate dental equipment, and including a plunger to effect a range of speeds for the equipment, said control unit being operated by an actuating member which engages said plunger to depress it, and said actuating member being universally actuated by a pedal selected from a series thereof arranged in spaced relationship upon a base and extending radially from the base and capable of being moved either pivotally in a horizontal plane or depressed vertically downward to actuate said actuating member in one direction to depress the plunger of said control unit to a degree corresponding to the speed desired for the dental equipment.

  • Patent number: 3982718
Abstract: An operatory chair, such as a dental chair, having an upper supporting member to which the seat and back unit of an operatory chair may be attached, particularly pertaining to the mechanism by which said supporting member for the seat and back is raised and lowered. The preferred construction comprises a pair of sets of pivotally connected links arranged in lazy tong manner, said links being operated by linkage mechanism actuated by a rotatable screw and follower in such manner that the movement of the supporting member for the seat and back is smooth and relatively slow, particularly at the commencement of elevating movement so as not to include sudden and rapid upward movement as is conventional with typical lazy tong structures used in jacks and the like.
