  • Patent number: 9591304
Abstract: A method of evaluating perceptual visual quality (PVQ) of compressed video bit streams in the H.262 or H.264 formats without performing block transforms or prediction decodes I-frames within a group of pictures (GOP). DC and AC coefficients are determined for selected macroblocks within a selected one of the I-frames. Based upon the DC and AC coefficients, the PVQ is calculated.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 22, 2012
Date of Patent: March 7, 2017
    Assignee: TEKTRONIX, INC.
Inventors: Jonathan S. Kau, William G. Mears

  • Patent number: 6029045
Abstract: A system for communicating a programming data stream and a data stream containing pieces of local content data that are going to be inserted into a local content space in the programming data stream at some predetermined time is provided in which the programming data stream and the local content digital data stream are transmitted to a set-top box in a house of a user, the set-top box stores a predetermined portion of the pieces of local content data based on predetermined criteria, and the set-top box identifies a local content space in the programming data stream.

  • Patent number: 4825690
Abstract: A method for controlling a dynamometer used to simulate the on-road operation of a vehicle during testing on a dynamometer so as to achieve a more accurate matching of the on-road speed profile of the vehicle by the dynamometer. The dynamometer includes means for drivingly connecting the dynamometer to the powertrain of the vehicle, such as rollers on which the drive wheels of the vehicle rest and which are rotated by the vehicle drive wheels, or a direct drive to the output shaft of the vehicle engine and transmission. A power absorption and motoring unit is connected to the rollers or direct drive to simulate road operating forces. A force transducer is provided for measuring the force of the power absorption and motoring unit and a speed transducer is provided for measuring the speed of the power absorption and motoring unit.

  • Patent number: 4719949
Abstract: A valve activated by inserting a fuel nozzle in a fuel tank fill line allows hydrocarbon vapors from the tank to be displaced into an adsorbent canister. The valve closes when nozzle is withdrawn. The valve prevents loss of liquid when fuel tank is accidentally inverted.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 30, 1986
Date of Patent: January 19, 1988
    Assignee: Mobil Oil Corporation
    Inventor: William G. Mears
  • Patent number: 4679581
Abstract: Disclosed is a valve configuration including a spring balanced, semi buoyant valve head containing within it a ball in a vertical channel. Closure of the valve head against a valve seat permits the escape of vapors through the veritcal channel until the presence of liquid fuel closes the ball against a second seat.
