Patent number: 11919365Abstract: A method of operating a vehicle climate system when an ambient temperature is below a threshold temperature is provided. In response to an ambient temperature being less than a threshold temperature, a controller is adapted to operate a blower motor at a voltage that depends on whether the vehicle is in charge sustain mode or charge deplete mode. In response to an ambient temperature being greater than a threshold temperature, the controller is adapted to operate the blower motor at a voltage that does not depend on whether in the charge sustain or charge deplete modes.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 2022Date of Patent: March 5, 2024Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Jasbir Jaglan, William Stewart Johnston, Alan Douglas Wallington, Curtis Mark Jones, Chris George Oehring, Mark G. Patent number: 8172105Abstract: A container for storing and dispensing pills is provided. The container has a housing with an upper end and a lower end and a plurality of compartments therein. The compartments have an open end adjacent the upper end of the housing and a lower end adjacent the lower end of the housing. The lower end of each compartment has an opening with a hinged door covering the opening. A cam having a cam surface is attached to the door so the cam rotates as the door opens and closes. A cam follower pin abuts the cam surface and the cam follower pin is constrained to move along a predefined path. The doors can be opened manually one at a time or all together by pushing downward on a centrally located handle at the top of the container. When opening all the door simultaneously the handle can be retained in the door open position by sliding two flanges beneath the handle into a slot and rotating the handle left or right. The housing is mounted to a rotatable lazy-Susan base.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2007Date of Patent: May 8, 2012Inventor: William G. Smith

Patent number: 7437128Abstract: A portable interference-generating device for inducing desired frame error characteristics, such as desired frame error patterns and rates, at a mobile unit receiving a carrier signal having at least one data channel having a plurality of data frames. The induced frame errors may be used to test a digital radio receiver's behavior in the presence of frame errors that may occur as a result of various impairments in a CDMA wireless communication channel. The portable interference-generating device includes a noise source that provides a noise signal and a pulse generator that is used to gate the noise signal according to a desired frame error characteristic at the mobile unit. The gated noise signal is provided to the mobile unit via a coupling element, which preferably couples the gated noise signal directly to an antenna radiation element on the mobile unit.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2007Date of Patent: October 14, 2008Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Braden J. Fessler, Nick J. Baustert, Cesar Perez, William G. Smith

Publication number: 20080226204Abstract: Soiled garments are placed in a mesh laundry bag. Two holes in the bag are connected by a spindle sleeve and placed over a spindle of a washing machine so the spindle passes through the center of the bag to center the bag during washing. The bag allows delicate garments to be washed and held separate from other garments in the washing machine. The bag is releasably fastened to connectors on the washing machine's tub which contains the spindle. Releasable closures around the holes prevent garments from slipping out of the bag during washing. An internal stand can be placed in the spindle sleeve to hold the bag in position to receive laundry when the bag is outside the tub. An external frame can do the same.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 16, 2007Publication date: September 18, 2008Inventors: Azad Sabounjian, William G. Smith

Patent number: 6895871Abstract: A portable, re-usable, elevated platform that provides a large, non-slip, grated surface on which an individual wearing a fully-encapsulated, hazardous materials suit may stand, and turn as needed to ensure thorough on-site decontamination. The platform generally comprises a top grate and two folding/pivoting support leg assemblies. The elevated design of the platform allows for the collection of the hazardous material runoff in a containment vessel deployed underneath. The platform is fabricated of impervious, strong, lightweight materials to prevent absorption of any hazardous materials and to provide sufficient structural strength while keeping its overall weight reasonable. The design is simple and straightforward, and can be economically manufactured.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2003Date of Patent: May 24, 2005Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: William G. Patent number: 6697740Abstract: A method for the sampling one or all phases of batch sewage treatment process to obtain an accurate timing of completion of one or all of the phases of the batch sewage treatment process. The number and timing of samples taken is selected to provide samples over the length of a given phase or a group of phases or all phases of the batch sewage treatment process recommended by the manufacturer of the equipment. Samples are analyzed to determine the end point of the reactions in the phase being sampled. Based upon the results of the tests the sampling regime or the timing of the phase can be revised.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2002Date of Patent: February 24, 2004Inventor: William G. Smith

Publication number: 20030146243Abstract: The present invention relates to a measuring and dispensing device having a container cap securely fastened to a container by screw threads or other suitable means; a two piece rotatable metering drum connected to the cap by a rotatable, snap-action ring; and an exit spout on the opposite end of the metering drum attached to the drum by a rotatable, snap-action ring. An objective in the development of the present device was to reduce the height of the metering drum which is achieved by splitting the metering drum along a parting line, and then permanently joining the two parts by a non-rotatable locking snap-action ring so that the entrance and exiting openings to the metering drum are approximately ⅜ inch in diameter while the interior of the metering drum chambers vary in size to accommodate the ¼, ½, and 1 teaspoon measurement amounts.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 7, 2002Publication date: August 7, 2003Inventor: William G. Smith

Patent number: 6550640Abstract: A container top includes rotatable elements that are used to dispense matter from the container. The top includes a drum with chambers of varying volumes, and a rotatable disc on opposing ends of the drum to allow material to flow into and out of selected chambers of the drum. A spout is rotatably connected to one end of the drum with one disc connected to rotate with the spout, and a cap is rotatably connected to an opposing end of the drum. The drum and spout are rotated to control the filling of the chambers and the emptying of selected chambers. Latches extend between the parts to hold them together while allowing the rotation. Resilient rings are interposed between the drum and mating parts to allow resilient sealing of the chambers during rotation.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2001Date of Patent: April 22, 2003Inventor: William G. Smith

Patent number: 5992757Abstract: A fountain having a spherical element over which water flows is disclosed. The sphere includes an upper pole, a lower pole, a polar axis connecting the upper and lower poles, an equatorial plane, and a sphere surface. The sphere is mounted in the fountain so that the upper pole forms the apex of the sphere. A water outlet is provided at the upper pole for providing a flow of water over the surface of the sphere. The surface of the sphere is provided with a plurality of annular grooves circumscribing the polar axis, and extending above and below the equatorial plane for a predetermined distance towards each pole. Each annular groove has a radius of predetermined size, with the annular grooves located on the lower hemisphere being canted downwardly and inwardly from the equatorial plane so that the water or other liquid will flow slowly, evenly and continuously downhill over the surface of the sphere from groove to groove to the lower pole, without shedding or loss beneath the equatorial plane.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1998Date of Patent: November 30, 1999Assignee: Disney Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: William G.
