  • Publication number: 20090088354
Abstract: A grease composition is prepared from an isomerized base oil having consecutive numbers of carbon atoms and less than 10 wt % naphthenic carbon by n-d-M; a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. of less than 10 mm2/s, and a cloud point—pour point spread of less than 25° C. The grease composition in one embodiment, exhibits improved service life, i.e., capable of performing for longer period of time of at least 50% at high temperatures/speeds and in an oxidizing environment as compared to greases containing Group II or POA base oils in the prior art.
    Type: Application
    Filed: February 15, 2008
    Publication date: April 2, 2009
Inventors: Micah K. Berry, David S. Lee, William G. Wallace, Thomas J. Boersig

  • Patent number: 4858534
Abstract: A high performance ballistic grease is used in ammunition and a lubricating process to protect the barrel of a weapon from corrosion and overheating. The ballistic grease, ammunition, and process improve the structural integrity and accuracy of the weapon and are economical, nontoxic, effective, and safe. The preferred ballistic lubricating grease comprises a polyalphaolefin base oil, an amorphous silicon dioxide thickener, and a disodium octaborate tetrahydrate additive.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 10, 1988
Date of Patent: August 22, 1989
    Assignee: Amoco Corporation
    Inventor: William G. Wallace
