  • Patent number: 7203186
Abstract: A system and a call forwarding manager device for providing Internet telephony to a subscriber's premises via the subscriber's Internet connection, facilitated by the subscriber's analog telephone connection. Incoming analog telephone calls are received by the call forwarding manager connected to the subscriber's analog telephone line, which responds by generating a request for service from a voice gateway, which may be remotely located. The voice gateway then generates an Internet telephone connection from the voice gateway to an Internet protocol telephone owned by the subscriber, and then connects the analog telephone call via the voice gateway to the Internet protocol telephone via the subscriber's Internet connection.

  • Patent number: 6216112
Abstract: A method and system for offering and distributing software wherein advertisements are incorporated into the software product, wherein author compensation is based on advertisement generated revenues. In accordance with the features of this invention, the advertisements are loaded into the Random Access Memory of the computer whenever the software is invoked and are displayed before the software can be used. Moreover, advertisements are periodically refreshed by automatically accessing computer servers on the Internet and downloading and installing the advertisements on the computer's hard disk and usage records which can be used for author compensation are uploaded to the server. Computer users are given the option of disabling the advertisements by paying for the software.

  • Patent number: 5818512
Abstract: An interactive video services system for enabling store and forward distribution of digitized video programming comprising merged graphics and video data from a minimum of two separate data storage devices is disclosed. In a departure from the art, an MPEG converter operating in tandem with an MPEG decoder device that has buffer capacity merges encoded and compressed digital video signals stored in a memory of a video server with digitized graphics generated by and stored in a memory of a systems control computer. The merged signals are then transmitted to and displayed on a TV set connected to the system. In this manner, multiple computers are able to transmit graphics or multimedia data to a video server to be displayed on the TV set or to be superimposed onto video programming that is being displayed on the TV set.

  • Patent number: 5603078
Abstract: An infrared remote control unit including an integrated card reading device. The unit is used for purchasing products or services offered via a television monitor, such that the unit transfers data to a receiver connected to a television monitor connected via at least one modem to a control computer for processing and purchase authorization. The unit includes a card reader for reading data encoded on a magnetic stripe of a card. A microprocessor operatively connected to the card reader receives and reformats the encoded data. A transmitter connected to the microprocessor transmits the reformatted data to the receiver for the purchase.

  • Patent number: 4737600
Abstract: A reenterable splice closure and method of making and applying the same is disclosed having a pair of mating housings with an internal rigid telescoping support collar located at the seam between the two housings, and a first heat shrinkable sleeve surrounding and sealably shrunk down over the mating ends of the housings sealing the seam and extending the end of one housing for heat shrinking down onto cables leading from a splice enclosed in the housing. The enclosure can be reopened by cutting the splice along a line over the seam, and after the closure has been reassembled with the housings again in mating position, a new heat shrinkable sleeve is applied down over the cut in the first shrinkable sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4647713
Abstract: This invention relates to a pressurized telecommunication cable joint closure method and apparatus. Provided is a cylinder comprising a pair of semicylindrical shell members connected together along one elongate edge of each member and releasable securing means on the other elongate edge of each member. The securing means comprises a plurality of projections on one member edge and a matching plurality of receiving means on the other member edge whereas the projections extend radially inward and lie within a plane containing the longitudinal axis of one of the shell members. The cylinder further has interleaved rectilinear fingers at the ends that are for sealing to joined cables. A heat shrinkable wraparound member is used to enclose the cylinder and joined cables.
