  • Patent number: 5896277
Abstract: A wraparound battery cover (10) which slidably attaches to the lower portion (24) of a housing (20) is provided. The radio cover comprises a front side (12) and a rear side (14) joined by a gripping portion (15). Locking pegs (21) snap-fit into corresponding openings (11) in the battery cover. A plurality of gripping surfaces (19) are provided upon the gripping portion (15) of the cover. Upon full engagment of the battery cover to the housing, the battery cover wraps around five sides of the housing, with the rear side covering a battery containment section (26) of the housing. The battery cover is easily removed from the housing by pulling the cover and the housing in opposite directions perpendicular to the direction of battery insertion.

  • Patent number: 5861850
Abstract: An antenna assembly (100) for use in a portable two-way radio communications device includes a radio housing (101) including one or more boss (103) used for securing portions of a substrate (105) to the radio housing. An aperture (115) located within an antenna housing (111) is positioned over an antenna boss (107) where a metal trace located on the substrate (105) can be electrically connected to the antenna housing (111) using a fastener (109). The antenna assembly (100) permits an antenna element (113) located in the antenna housing (111) to be easily connected to the substrate (105) using minimal component parts while fastening both the antenna housing (111) and substrate (105) into a fixed position.

  • Patent number: 5823495
Abstract: A mounting apparatus for securing a mobile radio includes a mounting tray (102) having a flat surface (104), radio housing attachment wings (106) and a pair of radio receiving portions (108). The flat surface has recessed fastening locations (110) for attaching the mounting tray to a surface using screws or bolts. A rubber pad (114) is affixed to the inside of each attachment wing (106) such that an opening (115) in the pad is aligned with an opening (112) in the attachment wing. The radio receiving portions (108) each have a cut-out (109) for receiving the rear of the mobile radio. A high tensile strength spring (118) is riveted (130) to the flat surface (104) of the tray and has an L-shaped end (122) prevents the spring from deforming if an unexpectedly large force is applied to the top of the radio. Together, these features act to dampen any vibrations, etc. which could damage internal radio circuitry.

  • Patent number: 5689403
Abstract: An intercooled electronic device, includes a thermally conductive chassis (110), a substrate (120) mounted onto the chassis (110), a housing (104) formed around the chassis (110), and a cooling fan (130) mounted internally within the housing (104). The substrate (120) carries electrical circuitry including at least one heat-generating component (122) which is thermally coupled to the chassis (110). The cooling fan (130) is oriented to direct air across the chassis (110).
