  • Patent number: 8673226
Abstract: An apparatus and method for hydrating lime in a horizontally disposed vessel where adjacent oppositely rotating shafts have first sets of spaced blades extending coaxially with an axis of each shaft and an adjacent second set of blades extending to an angle to the longitudinal axis, the blades directing a mixture of quicklime and water upwardly into a space between the shafts and towards the cover, while forming hydrated lime.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 6, 2011
Date of Patent: March 18, 2014
    Assignee: Carmeuse Lime, Inc.

  • Patent number: 7959436
Abstract: A fine dust removal system for a rotary lime kiln includes a preheater adjacent the charging end of the kiln and a housing adjacent to and communicating with kiln charging end, such that a major portion of not off-gases containing solid particulates are diverted to the preheater and a minor portion thereof directed into the housing. At least a portion of the solid particulates is separated from the hot off-gases in the housing, while the hot off-gases leaving the housing, after solid particulate removal, are directed into the preheater.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 29, 2008
Date of Patent: June 14, 2011

  • Patent number: 5702247
Abstract: A rotary reactor is shown having an improved internal lining including a lifter section which extends along an interior surface of the reactor chamber for lifting material from a lower portion of the chamber to an upper portion thereof as the chamber rotates. The lifter section is formed as a monolithic casting of a refractory material having a polygonal cross-section which includes a series of blunt faces alternating with a series of slanted faces. The slanted faces are aligned with a direction of rotation of the reactor such that the slanted faces of the refractory material first contact the material being lifted.
