  • Publication number: 20090255201
Abstract: A foam roofing underlayment is provided with a reinforcement membrane having an array of fastener elements for engaging fastener elements on a flexible roof membrane. The underlayment is formed by molding foam between the reinforcement membrane and a carrier membrane. The underlayment in secured to the roof using washers having fastener elements for engaging the fastener elements of the flexible roof membrane. An anti-peel flap with fastener elements is provided around the periphery of the washers. A slip sheet is used between the underlayment and the flexible roof membrane to permit accurate positioning of the flexible roof membrane prior to engagement of the fastener elements. The interstices between the fastener elements provide lateral moisture paths to vents in the flexible roof membrane.

  • Publication number: 20090165922
Abstract: A method of forming a medical wrap including a flexible, sheet-form substrate with a discrete medical function delivery region having a surface adapted to be placed against a patient's skin to provide a desired medical effect. The substrate carries a field of fibers exposed for engagement by an array of fastener elements. The fastener elements each have a respective stem extending integrally from a band of resin extending along the substrate. The fastener elements are constructed to snag the exposed fibers when the substrate is wrapped about a patient in an overlapping manner, securing the wrap about the patient with the medical function delivery region in a desired position. The wrap is configured for use as a hot or cold pack, a medical dressing, or drug delivery device.

  • Publication number: 20090025868
Abstract: A sheet-form composite has a paper side and a side having a field of fastener hooks. The paper side has a surface formed to be printable, writeable or photo-developable in the presence of the fastener hooks on the obverse side. Weak hook areas enable support of light weight papers upon loop surfaces that are not designed for hook and loop fastening. Selected bands in which hooks reside enable performing other operations in non-hook areas, with which the hooks would interfere, or would be damaged. The composite is useful for display, sales, advertising or adornment, and is readily fed through standard inkjet and other printers. Images are thus acquired and transferred onto the composite by computer.

  • Patent number: 7451532
Abstract: A method of making a fastener product having discrete regions of fastener element stems extending from a strip-form base includes providing a gap formed along a peripheral surface of a rotating mold roll, the mold roll having a plurality of cavities exposed about the peripheral surface. A sleeve is introduced to the gap. The sleeve is positioned about the mold roll and covers selected cavities. Molten resin is introduced to the gap such that the resin forms at least a part of the strip-form base of the product at the peripheral mold roll surface and at least partially fills a plurality of the cavities to form fastener element stems as projections extending from the strip-form base, while the resin remains blocked from said selected ones by the sleeve. The resin is solidified and stripped from the peripheral surface of the mold roll by pulling the projections from their respective cavities.

  • Patent number: 7303711
Abstract: A rotating mold roll defines an array of molding cavities. The mold roll is positioned adjacent a pressure device to define a pressure nip. At least one of the mold roll and the pressure device define a molding recess that is larger than the molding cavities. Resin is introduced to the rotating mold roll and pressed into the molding cavities and the molding recess to form discrete projections and a series of discrete, longitudinally spaced apart structural features. The projections and structural features are carried on a continuous sheet-form base. The resin is removed from the mold roll to expose a continuous preform sheet including the base, the projections, and the structural features. The structural features are arranged along the preform sheet in a longitudinally repeating pattern. The preform sheet is separated into multiple discrete products including an array of the projections and at least one of the structural features.

  • Patent number: 7186025
Abstract: A reclosable bag has opposing broad face panels defining a volume therebetween for holding a quantity of contents, an end of the body forming an expandable gusset between the broad face panels, and a reclosable bag closure between the expandable gusset and a corresponding edge region of one of the broad face panels. When the closure is opened, a bag opening is formed between the expandable gusset and said one of the broad face panels of the bag, to access the bag contents. In one example, the bag has upper and lower expandable gussets, while in another the bag has expandable side gussets. The closure is readily closed without precise alignment and despite the adjacent gusset.

  • Patent number: 7160600
Abstract: Lightweight, hook-engageable materials capable of functioning as hook-engageable fasteners are treated and configured for use for economical and attractive displays and decorations. Laminates of the material with various substrates with associated printing are used to form visually attractive point of purchase, merchandise or trade show displays. Self-supporting or stable materials having lettering or designs on their surface are used to form banners or floor coverings. Non-woven materials with varied areal density of fibers perform those functions with particular economy. Low density knit fabrics are also useful according to broad features of the invention. Methods are shown to produce reinforced corrugated board and desirably laminated and printed materials having hook-engageable surfaces.

  • Patent number: 7156937
Abstract: A loop fastener product is formed by needling a batt of fibers through a carrier sheet such as a plastic film, to form loops on the other side of the carrier sheet. A binder, such as a powder resin or plastic film, is placed over the fiber side of the product and fused to the carrier sheet to bond the fibers in place. In some cases the product is needled in only discrete areas, leaving other areas free of loops. The product may be formed into outer covers for disposable diapers. Fibers of one resin are readily combined with films and backings of other resins to produce particularly thin and low weight loop materials.

  • Patent number: 7048818
Abstract: Fastenings, including stretchy or flexible “zebra-like” and “leopard-like” appearing materials, are disclosed having spaced bands or a distribution islands of molded loop-engageable hooks or molded pre-forms for hooks, between which are bands or regions of different character. Molding is by rigid molds filled from the base region of the stems. In embodiments, linear bands or islands of fastener elements are themselves inextensible in the direction of their extent and comprise multiple rows of fastener elements. For ease of forming a uniform, elastically stretchy or flexible product, the bands or islands of fastener elements extend in the machine direction during manufacture.
