    Abstract: Disclosed is a bone fusion or implant, method and system for arthrodesis of a human ankle fusing the distal end of a tibia, talus and/or a calcaneus bone by employing a single anatomically lateral incision to the tibia, fibula, talus and calcaneus region, removing some or all of a fibula in the incision area and attaching the implant to the tibia, talus and/or calcaneus in a generally central area of the ankle. The removed portion of the fibula is morsilized and made into a paste and mixed with an autologous platelet concentrate that is applied as a bone graft to the implant site thereby enhancing the arthrodesis site and enhancing hemostasis.

A constant, tension-spring controlled positioning assembly allows placement of a tethered cane in a user-selected location remote from the user's hands, while drawing the cane into a readily grasped orientation in a uniform manner upon demand. A brake mechanism prevents unwanted cane retraction. The wrist-mounted attachment strap is adjustable and requires no special dexterity during securement or removal.

    Abstract: A portable lifting apparatus for lifting and transferring of patients for use in combination with a sling or the like support. The apparatus consists of an upright tower-like base unit with a lower base section and a vertically extending armature with a hingably mounted lifting boom. The apparatus can be placed into an operational position in a minimal amount of time by lifting of the boom and deployment of the support legs. The boom would incorporate a lifting mechanism consisting of an electrically driven linear actuator, and/or a hydraulic or pneumatic piston. Deployment status might be verified by readouts on a centralized control panel or remote control unit. Wheels under the base unit might be controllably driven to aid in moving the lifting apparatus in either a stowed or deployed position. In a retracted state, the apparatus can be stored in a small area such as a closet having a footprint no larger than the size of the base unit.

The apparatus is stored in a retracted state by placement of supporting legs and the lifting boom in a folded position. The apparatus can be placed into an operating position in less than two minutes by extension of the support legs and lifting boom which are then locked into position by the use of over-center latches used on leg struts and a boom crutch. Extension is verified by the use of LED indicator lights located on a control panel providing operational sequences from a single location. Separate motors are provided for placement of the legs and boom as well a hoist motor for operating a hoist and a swing motor for angular placement of the boom unit. In a retracted state the apparatus can be stored in a small area such as a closet having a footprint no larger than the size of the base frame.
