  • Patent number: 9265291
Abstract: Protective chaps, such as chainsaw protective chaps, including a right legging, a left legging, and a waist attachment element such as a belt for attaching the chaps to the waist of a wearer. Each legging has preferably 2-5 strap units, such as straps, for securing the legging around the back of a leg of the wearer. One or more of the strap units is repositionable higher or lower on its legging to provide comfort and better fit for the wearer and so that a damaged strap unit or strap can be easily replaced.

  • Patent number: 5829171
Abstract: Footwear such as a shoe or boot has an upper, an outsole and an insole. The insole comprises a layer of thermoplastic material and a heater member. The heater member is capable of generating heat by being energized by electrical energy and is capable upon being energized of effectively heating and softening the thermoplastic material so that the insole may be conformed to the shape of the underside of a foot of a person, in order to provide a custom-fitting footbed and custom-fitting footwear. The heater member preferably includes an etched foil heating element which heats by electrical resistance.

  • Patent number: 5733647
Abstract: A removable insole is provided which includes a layer of thermoplastic material, the thermoplastic material preferably including ethylene vinyl acetate and ethylene vinyl acetate modified by the addition of carbonyl groups. A custom-fitting insole is preferably produced by heating a substantially flat insole in a microwave oven until the thermoplastic material softens, placing the heated insole in a shoe, and having a person insert their foot into the shoe and walk around to form an impression.

  • Patent number: 5555584
Abstract: A method of producing a custom-fitting article such as a custom-fitting footbed (for example, a removable insole), a custom-fitting hand grip, a custom-fitting body pad, and a custom-fitting orthopedic cast. A member for producing same and a composition for use in connection therewith are also provided. A member, such as a gel pad or gel-filled envelope, is provided which comprises a body of formable material having a minimum setting temperature greater than 130.degree. F. and being setable by heating for a period not exceeding 30 minutes and subsequent cooling. The member is conformed by biasing it against a body part of a person or mammal with sufficient pressure to conform the member to the shape of the body part. The member is then heated for a period not exceeding 30 minutes and thereafter cooled so that the formable material is set and the member remains flexible while resiliently retaining an impression of the body part.

  • Patent number: 4396488
Abstract: A process for producing a superior coal liquefaction solvent. A particulate coal is admixed with a distillable aromatic hydrocarbon solvent and liquefied under predetermined conditions to form coal liquefaction products comprising distillable and substantially nondistillable soluble coal products and insoluble coal products. The distillable solvent and distillable soluble coal products are separated from the remaining liquefaction products. The remainder is admixed with a deashing solvent and separated under elevated temperature and pressure conditions in several separation zones into an insoluble coal products fraction, a light soluble coal products fraction and a heavy soluble coal products fraction. A portion of the light soluble coal products fraction is admixed with the recovered distillable solvent to form the coal liquefaction solvent. The light soluble coal products comprise at least about 15 percent and preferably 25 to 50 percent of the coal liquefaction solvent.

  • Patent number: 4000587
Abstract: A building structure is disclosed having a facia board 13 and a shingled roof 14. A gutter assembly is secured to the facia board 13 and includes a gutter member 18 and a roof plate 19. The roof plate 19 includes an open C-shaped cavity 30 which receives a flange 25 projecting from the gutter member. The free edge 26 of the flange resiliently seals against the portion of the gutter member which defines the cavity to prevent water from seeping under the roof plate by capillary action. The vertical disposition of the flange in the cavity varies along the axial length of the cavity for pitching the gutter member. The rear wall 21 of the gutter member is nailed to the facia board, and the front wall 22 of the gutter member is supported by a support bracket 37 extending from the rear wall to the front wall.
