  • Publication number: 20170312035
Abstract: A surgical navigation system comprises a computer system, a tracking system and a projector. The computer system includes instructions for performing a surgical plan. The tracking system is electronically connected to the computer system and has a viewing area in which markers can be located within a three-dimensional space relative to the viewing area. The projector is electronically connected to the computer system and has a beam projectable into the viewing area to display a step of the surgical plan based on a location of a marker. A method for guiding a surgical instrument comprises tracking a surgical instrument within a three-dimensional space using a computer-operated tracking system, matching the surgical instrument to a step in a surgical plan for conducting the surgical procedure using the surgical instrument, and projecting a visual instruction into the three-dimensional space for the step in the surgical plan related to the instrument.

  • Publication number: 20160157937
Abstract: A method of determining an optimal position of a glenoid implant. The method includes identifying a center point of a patient's glenoid fossa based on an image of the patient's glenoid fossa; determining the optimal position of the glenoid implant based on the location of the center point relative to a medial point of the patient's scapula; and selecting orientation of an alignment pin based on the determined optimal glenoid implant position such that the glenoid fossa will be prepared to receive the glenoid implant at the optimal position when the glenoid fossa is prepared with a cutting device or guide coupled to the alignment pin.

  • Publication number: 20160144997
Abstract: A method for controlling the delamination of a package at the exposed edges of the package is disclosed. A carton is formed with a panel comprising at least one exposed edge, at least one partial depth cut proximate to the exposed edge, and a removable section positioned between the exposed edge and the partial depth cut. The separation of the removable section from the carton leaves an exposed edge with a reduced thickness, inhibiting delamination of the panel from the rest of the carton.

  • Patent number: 9235547
Abstract: A messaging system and method with dead man switching providing for hierarchical delivery of messages based on selected message hierarchy levels with controlled delivery/response timing is disclosed. The system and method incorporates a messaging host that communicates with a messaging source client that creates and prioritizes a message and targets address(es) for the message. This message is then transmitted to the target address(es) using a hierarchical transmission thread having set limits on response times for each address within the thread. Reception of the message by each target(s) produces visual and/or auditory notification at the target(s). Messages are automatically forwarded to remaining target(s) within the thread upon expiration of a timer should the target(s) fail to respond to the message within a predetermined time. Failure of the target(s) to respond to the message(s) is reported bi-directionally along the thread and forwarded to remaining target(s) in the thread.

  • Publication number: 20150159622
Abstract: A system employs wave energy harvesting apparatus and a water vessel (e.g., a ship) carrying an energy storage apparatus (e.g., array of batteries). The energy harvesting apparatus is preferably also carried by the water vessel, but may be fixed or carried by a separate water vessel. The water vessel is operated in an energy storing mode at an energy harvesting location subject to wave activity, during which the energy storage apparatus stores energy from the wave activity as harvested by the energy harvesting apparatus. The water vessel is operated in an energy transporting mode to transport the stored energy from the energy harvesting location to an energy releasing location (preferably onshore, but may be offshore) having a connection to an electrical power grid. The water vessel is operated at the energy releasing location in an energy releasing mode in which the stored energy is transformed into appropriate AC electricity supplied to the electrical power grid.
