    Abstract: A system and method for retransmission of voice packets in wireless communications are provided. The method includes transmitting a voice packet from a base station to a communication unit or from a communication unit to a base station at a rate faster than a generation rate of the voice packet. The method further includes determining whether the transmitted voice packet is successfully received and retransmitting the voice packet if not successfully received. The number of retransmissions is limited by a predetermined value.
