  • Publication number: 20230364307
Abstract: At least a portion of an object such as a medical implant is fabricated by a process. In the process, a porous structure, a solid structure, and an interface region directly attached to each of the porous structure and the solid structure are produced by an additive manufacturing machine using a stored output file configured for providing instructions to the additive manufacturing machine for fabricating the porous structure, the solid structure, and the interface region. The stored output file is prepared by preparing a computer-generated component file including a porous CAD volume and a solid CAD volume. Digitized radii are added to digitized struts defining digitized pores in an interface volume of porous CAD volume to mitigate stress concentrations that would otherwise result in sharp corners or notches in the fabricated object.

  • Publication number: 20060173622
Abstract: The present invention is a method for predicting the grain size distribution at a designated location within a water-lain sedimentary deposit. Initially, the vertical thickness of the sedimentary deposit at the designated location must be determined, as well as the vertical thickness and grain size distribution at a second location different from the designated location. Second, a distance parameter corresponding to the two locations must be determined. Finally the distance parameter is used, along with the initially determined vertical thickness at both locations and the grain size distribution at the second location to calculate the grain size distribution at the designated location.

  • Publication number: 20050109504
Abstract: A method for the storage of hydrogen within a subterranean solid carbonaceous formation such as a coal seam. At least one well extends from the surface of the earth into the formation and a pressure gradient extends from the formation to the well to desorb methane within the formation and flow the methane into the well. Subsequent to recovery of the methane from the formation, gaseous hydrogen is injected into the well and into the formation. The injection of hydrogen is carried out under a pressure sufficient to cause the injected hydrogen to become absorbed within the matrix of the carbonaceous formation. Subsequent to storage of the hydrogen, a pressure gradient is established from the formation to the surface to withdraw previously introduced hydrogen to the surface. At least one common well is used for recovery of methane from the formation and introduction of hydrogen into the formation.
