Abstract: This disclosure describes, among other things, embodiments of high mast lighting systems with at least one crossarm for mounting at a location along a height of a light pole disposed about a venue, the crossarm including one or more luminaires with the luminaires having associated LED drivers that may be controlled by one or more control nodes disposed locally on or at the pole, within an enclosure or housing, or nearby.

Abstract: A reflector based illumination system having a mounting insert with at least one primary reflective surface recessed from the opening of a housing and at least one circuit board with a light source operable to be placed in communication with a power source positioned adjacent at least one auxiliary reflective surface mounted at an angle to the primary reflective surface to cooperate with the light source to emit a quantity of incident light toward primary reflective surface, a quantity of incident light toward the auxiliary reflective surface, and a quantity of unobstructed light through the opening, with all three quantities cooperating to illuminate an exterior surface when the light source is placed in communication with the power source through the circuit board and energized to generate light.

Abstract: A lighting fixture having a first light source and a second light source contained within a single housing. In a first embodiment the first light source is an LED lighting source and the second light source is an HID lighting source within a common housing is disclosed. Each lighting source includes its own reflector assembly, and the reflector assemblies can be side by side. Alternatively, an induction lighting source can be substituted for the LED or HID light source. The lighting fixture is suited for outdoor lighting or indoor lighting, where each lighting source can operate independent of the other lighting source.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for predicting sand-grain composition and sand texture are disclosed. A first set of system variables associated with sand-grain composition and sand texture is selected (605). A second set of system variables directly or indirectly causally related to the first set of variables is also selected (610). Data for each variable in the second set is estimated or obtained (615). A network with nodes including both sets of variables is formed (625). The network has a directional links connecting interdependent nodes. The directional links honor known causality relationships. A Bayesian network algorithm is used (630) with the data to solve the network for the first set of variables and their associated uncertainties.

Abstract: A system for collecting program data from television systems is provided. The program data is collected at a main facility that distributes the program data to television distribution facilities for use in passive or interactive electronic television program guides. The system allows personnel at television station office computers to access a database of program data maintained at the main facility and to construct program schedules electronically using this database. The system error checks the program schedules in real time as they are constructed. The system allows reports, such as ad trafficking reports for use by television station personnel, to be generated based on the program schedule of a given television system.

Abstract: Embodiments of a microwave dryer are disclosed which may be used to dry or heat materials such a sewage sludge. The microwave dryer uses a reciprocating ram to push the material through a loading section and into a treatment section where the material is subjected to microwaves to drive of liquid content. The material is then pushed into an unloading section where it is removed from the microwave dryer. The dryer may be tilted to adjust the rate of flow of material through the dryer. Air nozzles on the bottom of the dryer direct air such that air flow through the nozzles may also be used to adjust the flow rate of material.

The identifier can be obtained by decoding a watermark, performing a hashing algorithm on content data, reading a bar code, etc. The object can be physical (e.g., a magazine page) or electronic (e.g., music or image data). Suitable devices useful with this technology include cell phones, PDAs, and the like, which may include sensors for capturing object data. The associated electronic resource can be a web site from which information, image/audio content, etc., is provided. A variety of other features and arrangements are also detailed.

Abstract: Costs associated with accessing the internet from a public terminal are borne by one or more sponsors. The terminal thus sponsored may, in exchange, be limited in the internet domains it is capable of browsing. If a user wishes to browse beyond the sponsored domains, a usage charge may be assessed. In other arrangements, web cards (like pre-paid phone cards) may be sold at retail establishments (or issued by libraries), to permit web browsing from compliant terminals. A variety of other arrangements are also detailed.

Abstract: Disclosed is a reflector for a lighting assembly comprised of a series of discrete facets connected to form an optical reflector. Each facet includes subdivisions that extend uninterrupted along substantially the length of the facet and serve to multiply the image of the light source for increased illumination. Further, the curvature of the facets are selected to maximize the length of the reflected image of the light source to further enhance optical output.

Abstract: An automated batch identifier registration and embedding system for media signals, such as image, video and audio files. A batch identifier registration system enables a user to submit a request for a batch of unique identifiers to be embedded in media signals. The user submits a request for a batch of IDs. The batch registration system verifies the accuracy of the request, sends a confirmation, allocates IDs, creates corresponding entries in a registration database, and creates embedder files used in a batch embedding process. The user may then submit a request for embedder files. To perform automated batch embedding, a watermark embedder takes the embedder files and corresponding list of media signal files as input and automatically embeds identifiers supplied in the embedder files into corresponding media signal files.

Abstract: A process for conditioning of wastewater treatment brines for deep well injection during recovery of heavy hydrocarbon oils in situ. High pressure steam is used to mobilize oil, which is recovered in a mixture of oil and produced water. The produced water is pre-treated by removing residual oil. The remaining water is acidified and steam stripped to remove non-hydroxide alkalinity and non-condensable gases, and is then fed to a crystallizing evaporator, where it is evaporated from a circulating brine slurry to produce (1) a distillate stream having a trace amount of residual solutes, and (2) evaporator blowdown stream containing, as dissolved or suspended solids, substantially all of the solutes from the produced water feed. The distillate stream is used as boiler feedwater, either directly or after polishing. The evaporator blowdown is conditioned to remove substantially all suspended solids and to produce a clear brine solution for deep well injection.

Abstract: A method of linking a content object with a network resource presents a content object to a reader, discerns an identifier associated with the content object, transfers the identifier to an indexing system, and in response receives an internet address corresponding to the content object. To enhance the response of the indexing system, it includes multiple routers, which it selects based on location relative to the reader. For example, the method sends user location data to a master system, and in response, receives an address of an indexing system close to the user location.

Abstract: A light fixture having a base for housing a light producing source and a flat plate disposed within the base. The plate has a well formed in it, the well having light reflecting walls. A lamp socket is located in a light reflecting bottom wall of the well. A plurality of light reflecting elements is attached to the plate and a pair of light reflecting assemblies, one on either side of the well, is fixed to the plate. Each light reflecting assembly includes a plurality of light reflecting fins affixed to the plate and projecting at an angle away from the plate. A frame having a convex lens affixed thereto is hingedly attached to the base. A light shield is fixed to the frame for reducing dispersion of unwanted light.
