  • Publication number: 20190134408
Abstract: Charging a medical implant is performed through the use of an external thermionic implant charging unit placed on the skin of the patient, proximate to the location where a subcutaneous thermionic implant is located. A voltage input can cause the thermionic implant charging unit to enter a warming or cooling phase in which the voltage creates a temperature gradient across a thermoelectric heat pump of the charging unit, causing the charging unit to respectively warm or cool the patient's skin. The thermionic implant can similarly have a thermoelectric heat pump, and the warming or cooling of the skin caused by the charging unit can create a temperature gradient across the thermoelectric heat pump of the thermionic implant, causing its thermoelectric heat pump to create a voltage. This voltage can be used to charge a battery of (and/or directly power) the thermionic implant.

  • Patent number: 10278626
Abstract: A system and a method for creating a stable and reproducible interface of an optical sensor system for measuring blood glucose levels in biological tissue include a dual wedge prism sensor attached to a disposable optic that comprises a focusing lens and an optical window. The disposable optic adheres to the skin to allow a patient to take multiple readings or scans at the same location. The disposable optic includes a Petzval surface placed flush against the skin to maintain the focal point of the optical beam on the surface of the skin. Additionally, the integrity of the sensor signal is maximized by varying the rotation rates of the dual wedge prisms over time in relation to the depth scan rate of the sensor. Optimally, a medium may be injected between the disposable and the skin to match the respective refractive indices and optimize the signal collection of the sensor.

  • Patent number: 10277058
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure are generally directed to apparatus and techniques for protecting electronic devices that may be prone to damage by wireless charging fields. For example, the apparatus may include a wireless charging circuit configured to selectively generate a wireless charging field and an impedance detection circuit coupled to the wireless charging circuit and configured to detect an impedance change corresponding to the wireless charging field. In this case, a proximity detection circuit may selectively detect proximity of one or more electronic devices that are prone to damage by the wireless charging circuit. In some aspects, detecting the proximity of the one or more electronic devices is activated based on detecting the impedance change, and wherein generating the wireless charging field comprises reducing a transmit power of the wireless charging field based on detecting the impedance change.
