Patent number: 7270518Abstract: Steam turbine bucket covers have forward and aft clearance surfaces on a pressure side edge of the cover, a contact surface between the clearance surfaces and an undercut fillet between the forward clearance surface and the contact surface. The adjoining bucket cover has forward and aft clearance surfaces, a contact surface between the clearance surfaces and an outside radius between the forward clearance surface and the contact surfaces along the suction side edge of the cover. The undercut fillet includes two different radii to minimize or eliminate fretting damage caused by high stresses in the interference fit between the contact surfaces of adjacent covers.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 2005Date of Patent: September 18, 2007Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Kevin Joseph Barb, Robert Edward Deallenbach, William Hunter Boardman, IV

Patent number: 6761530Abstract: A method for sealing between a rotary component and a stationary component. The method including positioning a seal assembly having a plurality of teeth adjacent the stationary component and positioning a packing surface to interface with the rotary component. The packing surface at the rotary component includes at least one step that has an axial width that is approximately equal to a distance the rotary component axially shifts relative to the stationary component during transition from startup to steady state operating conditions.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2003Date of Patent: July 13, 2004Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Leonid Julievich Ginessin, Anil Kumar Tolpadi, William Hunter Boardman, IV

Patent number: 6346760Abstract: A stator cage design is provided in which the core is formed by stacking a plurality of lamination sectors each having grooves or cutouts defined at spaced locations about the outer periphery thereof. The grooves or cutouts of axially adjacent laminations are aligned to define longitudinal grooves for receiving keybars, each of which preferably has a generally circular cross section. A core flange assembly is disposed at least at each longitudinal end of the stacked laminations and includes a plurality of apertures therethrough for receiving the respective keybars. Compression bands are circumferentially disposed about the stacked lamination and keybar assembly to hold the keybars and radially lock the stacked laminations. The core is then concentrically disposed in a stator frame. The stator frame includes frame support plates for being bolted to the flanges of the stator core and radially extending frame section plates disposed at spaced locations along the length thereof between the frame support plates.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2000Date of Patent: February 12, 2002Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventor: William Hunter Boardman, IV
