Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include methods for editing and scanning unstructured data and text by using one or more external categories of data for the purpose of finding words and phrases in the unstructured environment which correspond to words and phrases in the external category. External categories of data are words and phrases that relate to the external category. External categories can be made for practically any subject. When a match (“hit”) is found, an output record is written to a table or a file. The output record may include the document name, the word that was a hit, and the external category. The process of using external categories of data is done either directly or indirectly to unstructured data.

Abstract: Unstructured data is manipulated so that the unstructured data is placed in a form that is more compatible with a structured data environment. The manipulation includes editing the unstructured data in preparation for integration into a structured data environment. Specifically, one or more editing programs edit unstructured text using a synonym list and/or an alternate spellings list. Once unstructured text is ready for processing, the unstructured text is examined a word and/or a phrase at a time to determine if there is a match with words or phrases in the synonym list or the alternate spelling list. If a match is found, the synonym or alternate spelling is either replaced in the unstructured document or added to the unstructured document. The unstructured document is then ready for further editing and manipulation in preparation for entry into the structured environment.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include methods for collecting, organizing, storing and displaying business-oriented metadata. Business metadata is metadata that uses terms of business and is meaningful to the business person. Business Metadata Manager (BMM) is a software system that collects business metadata, organizes and categorizes it, stores it into a structure, such as tables of a database, and then allows business metadata to be displayed in response to a query from an analyst or end user.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include a system and method of screening unstructured messages and communications. In one embodiment, messages and communications may be received in the form of email and telephone transcripts. In one embodiment, the present invention includes a method of extracting text from email and telephone transcripts and screening the content of the messages in order to pick out useful and relevant information using a list of words and phrases that can be described as industry recognized words and phrases. Industry recognized words and phrases are matched against the contents of the messages and communications to determine what part of the message or communication is relevant to an aspect of business.
