The system and method for efficient control and capture of dynamic database content includes a computer system with a storage means for facilitating the retention and recall of dynamic database content and a communications means for facilitating bi-directional communication of the computer system with local or distributed networks; an executory module operationally coupled to the computer system for controlling the storage means and the communications means as well as directing the system for the efficient control and capture of dynamic database content to a plurality of pre-selected Internet sites; and a capture module which is in communication with the executory module and facilitates selection of the plurality of Internet sites associated with a query submitted by a user of the system.

Abstract: A source manager includes an editor program that can be used to edit an existing source record via a graphical user interface (GUI). Test Action and Test Source functions allow a user to test enter a query and to test a source expeditiously. A conversion tool converts existing sources to the design and format to reconcile data scattered among the source engine data and source partition record. For handling internationalization issues, aspects of the invention include persistently storing the source's encoding type during the configuration process, and then using that encoding type later during the deep harvest phase. According to another aspect of the invention a solution for selecting a summary passage for a particular source is provided. Other aspects of the invention include solutions for character encoding, “Next Links” recognition and “Next Results” handling.

The method includes obtaining an initial categorization structure for organizing a plurality of subject areas of information, obtaining a plurality of parametric information lists for optimizing operation to a user's requirements, acquiring a listing of qualified databases from candidate database listing by matching candidate databases to a plurality of subject areas, obtaining a query from the user, the query being associated with a subject area, submitting a query to the qualified databases, acquiring a collection of responsive content from the qualified databases, indexing the responsive content to form an index for facilitating searching the collection, and publishing a summary of the collection for review by the user.

The method for automatic selection of databases includes obtaining a candidate database listing providing a uniform resource locator (URL) for each one of a plurality of candidate databases to be considered during selection, obtaining a query from a user, matching a subset of candidate databases to said query, and storing a listing of selected databases to be used for retrieving information relative to said query.
