    Abstract: An apparatus 10 for effecting sealing of a fused quartz ampoule 24 while maintaining a vacuum on the ampoule via system 12 is disclosed. A plug 28 of fused quartz is lowered into the vertically disposed ampoule 24 (while maintaining the vacuum thereon) and heat sealed therein to prevent any vapor escape from, or contamination of, the contained semiconductor growth charge 29 during subsequent semiconductor crystal growth processes. A rotary vacuum feed-through mechanism 16 selectively rotates axle 34 and spool 32 to unwind wire 30 for lowering of plug 28 into the reduced diameter portion 24b of ampoule 24. Ampoule 24 is hermatically connected to vacuum housing 18 by quick release flange 20 wherein O-ring 22 retains ampoule 24.

    Abstract: A reusable metal clamp 10 for retaining a fused quartz ampoule 25 during temperature cycling in the range of 20.degree. C. to 1000.degree. C. A compressible graphite foil 27 having a high radial coefficient of thermal expansion is interposed between the fused quartz ampoule 25 and metal clamp 10 to maintain a snug fit between these components at all temperature levels in the cycle.

    Abstract: The magnetometer transducer includes a group of plated magnetic wires arranged in parallel physically and connected in series electrically to serve as a drive circuit, and several turns of 0.025 mm diameter wire wound around the group of plated magnetic wires to serve as a sense coil. Each of the magnetic wires has a diameter of 0.05 mm with their centers being 0.25 mm apart. Because of its shape and small size, it is capable of very good spatial resolution of magnetic fields as low as 0.02 oe and it can make measurements of transverse magnetic fields as close as 0.08 mm from a surface. The magnetometer utilizes two X-Y recorders in a unique transducer scanning technique. One of the recorders moves the transducer over the specimen being measured and the other recorder records the measurements.
