  • Patent number: 8355009
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are provided for determining coordinates of simultaneous touches on a touch sensor pad. A touch sensor pad includes a first plurality of resistive sensor strips on a first resistive sheet and a second plurality of resistive sensor strips on a second resistive sheet. A user touches the touch sensor pad at multiple locations simultaneously. A controller of the touch sensor pad determines coordinates of each of the multiple locations of touch independently of other touches. To determine coordinates for a touch, the controller identifies a first strip of the first plurality of resistive sensor strips of the first resistive sheet making contact with a second strip of the second plurality of resistive sensor strips of the second resistive sheet in response to the touch.

  • Patent number: 7864259
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are provided for housing electrical components (312) of an electronic device in an enclosure (300) with an integrated backlight for a liquid crystal display (LCD) of the electronic device. An enclosure comprises a back plate (306), with a plurality of light sources (308) coupled to the back plate. The light sources provide back light for the LCD. The enclosure also comprises a plurality of spacers (310) which are coupled to a diffuser (304) of the LCD. Each spacer is adapted to optically couple to a corresponding light source to transmit light from the light source to the diffuser. The spacers are also adapted to secure electrical components in place between multiple spacers. Thus, non-display electrical components (1202) and display components may be housed within a single enclosure, which results in a significantly thinner device than prior art devices utilizing compartmentalized LCD displays.

  • Publication number: 20090009482
Abstract: A touch sensor pad may be utilized with an electronic device to perform different types of user input functions, such as typing, drawing, moving a cursor, etc. Regions of the touch sensor pad may correspond to keys of a keyboard. A user establishes a home position at a desired location of the touch sensor pad. When a user subsequently touches the touch sensor pad, the touch sensor pad determines a relative position of the touch in reference to the home position, and determines the value of the user input or keystroke based on the relative position. The value of the user input or the keystroke may then be processed by the controller.

  • Patent number: 5539330
Abstract: An interconnect bus system that includes an interconnect bus having a plurality of interconnect bus conductors, a reference circuit for placing a reference signal on certain of the interconnect bus conductors, and at least one electronic circuit module having a plurality of electronic circuit module conductors in addition to a configuration circuit, a bus interface, and an application circuit thereon. The electronic circuit module conductors can be in one of four physical orientations relative to the interconnect bus conductors. The configuration circuit can sense the reference signal and determine the electronic circuit module's physical orientation relative to the interconnect bus. The configuration circuit configures the bus interface based on the present physical orientation.
