Abstract: A composition comprising a compound selected from the group consisting of compounds of the following structural formula (1A): and the protonated and quaternized derivatives thereof of the following structural formula (1B): wherein R1 is a C2 to C22 hydrocarbyl group or is an ether group of the formula R—O—(R3)v—C3H6—, where v is 0 to 10 and R is a C1 to C22 hydrocarbyl group; R2 is hydrogen or a C1 to C22 hydrocarbyl group, or is  and (R3)yH, where y is 1 to 100; each R3 is independently selected from a group consisting of an ethylene oxide group (C2H4O), a propylene oxide group (C3H6O), a butylene oxide group (C4H8O) and mixtures thereof; each R4 is a C3 to C2, hydrocarbyl group; R5 is hydrogen or a C1 to C8 hydrocarbyl group; and x is 1 to 100; and A− is an anion.

Abstract: Paper having a improved softness is obtained by adding to the fiber suspension from which the paper is made, a quaternized fatty acid trialkanolamine ester salt of the formula (I) ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 CO represents an acyl radical having 6 to 22 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, independently of one another, represent hydrogen or R.sup.1 CO, (ALK) is ethyl or propyl, R.sup.4 represents an alkyl radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a (CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O).sub.q H group, the sum of m, n and p represents O or numbers from 1 to 12, q represents numbers from 1 to 12 and X represents halide, alkylsulfate or alkylphosphate.

Abstract: The addition of up to 15 percent by weight of a polyoxyalkylene derivative to a fatty acid derived bis(alkylamidoalkyl)amine derived quaternary salt permits the atomization of the latter in conventional equipment. The resulting fabric softening product is in the desirable form of a free flowing solid, water dispersible powder.

Abstract: Disclosed is an aqueous basic solution having a calculated pH of 13 or greater of a sulfobetaine which is soluble and stable for extended periods of storage. The sulfobetaine also is soluble and stable in aqueous basic solutions of high concentration, e.g. up to 30%-50% by weight sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide.
