  • Patent number: 7790826
Abstract: The invention relates to formulated compositions which can be easily formed into bottle caps, without the need for a liner, while still maintaining pressure requirements, such as for carbonated beverages. The compositions may include an ethylene polymer having a density in the range of from about 0.947 to 0.962 g/cm3, a melt index of from about 1 to about 10 g/10 min., and another ethylene polymer having a density in the range of from about 0.912 to 0.932 g/cm3, a melt index of from about 0.25 to about 6 g/10 min., wherein the two ethylene polymers have a density difference of equal to or greater than 0.03 g/cm3. In other cases, the composition may include a single component resin with a density in the 0.935-0.955 g/cm3 range with a melt index in the range of 0.3-1.2 g/10 minutes, and wherein the resin comprises a polyethylene polymer.

  • Patent number: 6248831
Abstract: A process for production of a polyethylene blend in situ comprising contacting ethylene and at least one alpha-olefin with a magnesium/titanium based catalyst system including a partially activated precursor and a cocatalyst in each of two fluidized bed reactors connected in series, one of the provisos being that the precursor is formed by contacting an alkylaluminum halide with a solid reaction product prepared from a magnesium alkoxide, a titanium tetraalkoxide, and a solubility enhancing agent.

  • Patent number: 6187866
Abstract: In a process for the in situ blending of polymers comprising contacting ethylene and one or more comonomers in two or more fluidized bed reactors with a catalyst system comprising (i) a magnesium/titanium based precursor containing an electron donor and (ii) a hydrocarbyl aluminum cocatalyst, the improvement comprising (A) increasing or decreasing the melt flow ratio and/or molecular weight of the blend by, respectively, decreasing or increasing the mole ratio of a precursor activator compound to the electron donor or (B) increasing or decreasing the bulk density of the blend by, respectively, increasing or decreasing the mole ratio of a precursor activator compound to the electron donor, both (A) and (B) subject to defined provisos including partial pre-activation of the precursor.

  • Patent number: 5925448
Abstract: A film comprising a blend of (i) a linear low density polyethylene and (ii) an in situ blend of copolymers of ethylene and one or more alpha-olefins having 3 to 8 carbon atoms wherein (a) the weight ratio of component (i) to component (ii) is in the range of about 0.01:1 to about 6:1; (b) the blend has been extruded, under extrusion conditions, at a die rate in the range of about 6 to about 20 pounds per hour per inch of die circumference and at a die gap in the range of about 0.020 to about 0.075 inch; and (c) the film exhibits essentially no melt fracture.
