  • Patent number: 10538993
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for selectively actuating sliding sleeves in sub members which are placed downhole in a wellbore, to open ports in such sub members to allow fracking of the wellbore, or to detonate explosive charges thereon for perforating a wellbore, or both. A simplified dart and sleeve is used which reduces machining operations on each. The dart is preferably provided with coupling means to permit a retrieval tool to be coupled thereto, which upon the retrieval tool being so coupled allows a bypass valve to operate to assist in withdrawing the dart from within the valve subs. Upward movement of the retrieval tool allows a wedge-shaped member to disengage the dart member from a corresponding sleeve to allow the dart to be withdrawn.

  • Patent number: 10329889
Abstract: A tool for fracking a formation at spaced intervals, which has an actuatable “dump” port to flush an annular space surrounding the tool when in a wellbore to thereby flush sand and reduce tendency for “sanding-in” of the tool in the wellbore. An uphole and downhole packer is provided, intermediate of which is a frac port. The dump port is located uphole thereof. Locking jaw members and a ‘j’ slot subassembly downhole of both the dump port and frac port are together used to set and unset the tool in the wellbore. A slidable sleeve opens and closes the dump port, which sleeve may be actuated by movement of the tool in the wellbore or alternatively by an actuating tool inserted in the bore of the tool. A method of carrying out fracking of the formation and flushing of the tool after each fracking operation is further disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10287861
Abstract: A method employs sand jetting to perforate a wellbore casing at various locations using sandjetting, to further flush/clean the wellbore in the region of the tool, and to further frac the formation, all without removing the tool from the wellbore. An uphole and downhole packer is provided, uphole of which a sand jet port is provided for jetting a fluid stream containing sand. Locking jaw members and a ‘j’ slot subassembly, downhole of both the jet port and frac port are together used to set and unset the tool in the wellbore for the fracking operation. A slidable sleeve is utilized to open and close the jet port. A piston member is provided to set the uphole packer. A selectively openable and closeable bypass-port is provided to assist in moving the tool uphole during the perforating and fracking process.

  • Patent number: 9611727
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for fracturing a well in a hydrocarbon bearing formation. The apparatus can include a valve subassembly that is assembled with sections of casing pipe to form a well casing for the well. The valve subassembly includes a sliding piston that is pinned in place to seal off ports that provide communication between the interior of the well casing and a production zone of the formation. A dart can be inserted into the well casing and propelled by pressurized fracturing fluid until the dart reaches the valve subassembly to plug off the well casing below the valve subassembly. The force of the fracturing fluid against the dart forces the piston downwards to shear off the pins and open the ports. The fracturing fluid can then exit the ports to fracture the production zone of the formation.

  • Patent number: 9528353
Abstract: A downhole tool for perforating a wellbore. A slidable plunger valve is provided, biased to cover jetting ports during run-in of the tool. A compressible packer may be provided below the jetting ports, and a jaw member provided below the packer. A “J” slot and pin arrangement may allow a three-position configuration, namely a run-in position where the packer is uncompressed and jetting ports closed, a set position where the packer is uncompressed and the jaw member forcibly frictionally engaged with the wellbore casing, and a jetting position where the packer is compressed, the tool is supplied with pressurized abrasive fluid, and the plunger valve has uncovered the jetting ports. The plunger valve may be made dual-acting, where during run-in the jetting ports are closed and a bypass port is uncovered, and in the jetting position the jetting ports are open and the bypass port is closed.

  • Patent number: 6152233
Abstract: The present invention is a surge anchor mechanism which includes a main body, lower unit slidable in relation to the main body, and slip members. The slip members have at least one inclined end surface. The lower unit has an inclined surface forming a frustoconical shape wherein the slope of the surface complements the inclined end surface of the slip member. The lower unit is aligned along the axis of the main body and movable in relation to the main body along this axis. The slip members are biased towards the lower unit and movable transversely in relation to the axis of the lower unit. As a surge occurs in the well, the lower unit and the main body are forced towards each other. This causes the inclined surface of the lower unit to cooperate with and move along the corresponding inclined surface of the slip member forcing the slip member outward from the lower unit and into engagement with the well casing.
