Patent number: 10220461Abstract: A method includes applying a force to elastically deform at least a portion of a superalloy turbine blade from a relaxed, initial position to an elastically deformed position. The at least a portion of the superalloy turbine blade has a curvature in the elastically deformed position not present in the relaxed, initial position. A hole is drilled generally span-wise through the at least a portion of the superalloy turbine blade in the elastically deformed position, and when the force is released, the superalloy turbine blade returns to the relaxed, initial position and the hole takes on a hole curvature within the at least a portion of the superalloy turbine blade.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2017Date of Patent: March 5, 2019Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Robert Frank Hoskin, Robert Aldo Del Freo, Joseph William Janssen, Joseph Leonard Moroso, Eric Alan Overholt, Matthew Ian Van Biervliet, Joseph Anthony Weber

Publication number: 20080206206Abstract: Bone marrow stromal cells (BMSC) differentiate into neuron-like phenotypes in vitro and in vivo, engrafted into normal or denervated rat striatum. The BMSC administered into the ventricle did not remain localized to the site of the graft, but migrated throughout the brain and integrated into specific brain regions in various architectonic patterns. The most orderly integration of BMSC was in the laminar distribution of cerebellar Purkinje cells, where the BMSC-derived cells took on the Purkinje phenotype. The BMSC exhibited site-dependent differentiation and expressed several neuronal markers including neuron-specific nuclear protein, tyrosine hydroxylase and calbindin. Treated BMSC implanted intrastriatally stayed in the cortex and the striatum, produced tyrosine hydroxylase which produces the dopamine needed in Parkinson's disease.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 12, 2007Publication date: August 28, 2008Applicant: UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDAInventors: Juan Sanchez-Ramos, Shijie Song, William Janssen, Paul Sanberg, Thomas Freeman

Publication number: 20080098125Abstract: A system and method for managing digests comprising electronic messages is presented. A selection criteria that defines message-based content for a digest is defined. Properties and characteristics of the content of the digest are defined. A delivery criteria that specifies periodic sending of the digest is accepted. The digest is constructed as a set of electronic messages. A dynamic stream of the electronic messages is monitored. One or more of the electronic messages is evaluated by filtering the electronic messages against the selection criteria. Only those electronic messages that satisfy the selection criteria are grouped into the digest to which the selection criteria corresponds. The digest is periodically delivered upon satisfaction of the delivery criteria.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 12, 2007Publication date: April 24, 2008Inventors: Michelle Wang Baldonado, Paula Newman, William Janssen

Publication number: 20070167943Abstract: A method of managing a system of minimally invasive surgery. The management method includes providing a practitioner with a minimally invasive surgery system including a controller. One or more use parameters is stored to memory associated with the controller. In addition, an electrosurgical probe having its own memory is provided to mate with the remaining elements of the system. Complementary use parameters are stored in the memory of the probe. The management method also includes communicating and comparing the use parameters of the controller with the complementary use parameters of the probe and managing the use of the electrosurgical probe according to the use parameters.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 13, 2006Publication date: July 19, 2007Applicant: JNJ Technology Holdings LLCInventors: William Janssen, James Newman, Ammon Balaster, Jeffrey Buske

Publication number: 20070060921Abstract: An electrosurgical probe including a probe body which defines a longitudinal probe axis. The electrosurgical probe also includes a first and second conductive electrode, each disposed along the probe axis. The surface area of the first conductive electrode is greater of the surface area of the second conductive electrode. The ratio of the surface area of the first conductive electrode to the surface area of the second conductive electrode may be adjustable. Another aspect of the present invention is an electrosurgical probe having a probe body which defines a single longitudinal probe axis. The electrosurgical probe of this aspect of the invention further includes more than two electrodes operatively disposed at separate and distinct positions along the axis of the probe body. The electrodes may be selectively connected to one of or a combination of a stimulation energy source, an ablation energy source or a ground for either energy source.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 28, 2006Publication date: March 15, 2007Applicant: JNJ Technology Holdings LLCInventors: William Janssen, James Newman, Ammon Balaster, Jeffrey Buske

Publication number: 20050283148Abstract: A surgical system and the associated methods for use in Minimally Invasive Surgical procedures for use in the short- and long-term termination of signals through nerves. Such a procedure is an improvement over the current state-of-the-art because of the use of a tightly coupled single-needle bi-polar probe. The proximity of both electrodes, to the nerve or tissue targeted for the treatment, is such that it reduces the losses experienced with external electrodes (e.g. plates or probes). Further, the probe has features associated with locating the probe and dispensing or sampling far above the probes currently available. The resulting improvements provide a quantum leap in technology for the associated medical industries and a base line for these procedures in the future.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 17, 2004Publication date: December 22, 2005Inventors: William Janssen, James Newman, James Jones, Jeffrey Buske
