  • Publication number: 20040129603
Abstract: This invention relates to base stocks and base oils that exhibit an unexpected combination of high viscosity index (130 or greater) and a ratio of measured-to-theoretical high-shear/low-temperature viscosity at −30C or lower and the methods of making them. Specifically, the present invention relates to low-volatility/low-viscosity lubricant base stocks, lubricant base stocks and base oils, formulated lubricant compositions or functional fluids comprising these base stocks and methods of making them. More particularly, this invention relates to lubricant compositions of low-temperature flow capability and low viscosity for passenger car motor lubricants of SAE 0W-XX grade (where XX=40 or lower), methods for optimizing fuel economy using the same, and methods or processes to produce them.

  • Patent number: 6676827
Abstract: A method for producing a lube basestock from a waxy feed is disclosed in which a feed containing to 50 wt % or more of wax is hydrotreated and stripped to lower the nitrogen and sulfur content of the feed. The feed is then hydroisomerized under conditions to 370° C. hydrocatalytically dewaxed with a catalyst comprising a mixture of a catalytically active metal on a zeolite dewaxing catalyst and an amorphous catalyst, or alternatively is solvent dewaxed and then hydrocatalytically dewaxed with the just described catalyst.

  • Patent number: 6383366
Abstract: Waxy feeds are treated under hydroisomerization conditions to produce good yields of an isomerate product of high VI by using a silica-alumina based catalyst in which the silica-alumina has a pore volume less of 0.99 ml/gm (H2O), an alumina content in the range of 35 to 55 wt % and an isoelectric point in the range of 4.5 to 6.5. A lube fraction of the isomerate is dewaxed to provide a lube basestock of high VI. The silica-alumina may be modified with a rare earth oxide or yttria or boria or magnesia in which instance the modified catalyst has an isoelectric point greater than but no more than 2 points greater than base the silica-alumina.

  • Patent number: 5959819
Abstract: The protective relay is primarily energized by a voltage transformer tap on the power circuit. The current transformers that provide the monitoring current to the protective relay also provide an auxiliary power input to the power supply circuit. A switching circuit monitors the input voltage and switches to the current feed to generate the relay supply voltage when the input voltage drops below a predetermined level. In one embodiment the fault tolerant power supply is provided as an optional, modular, add on unit. In a second embodiment, the power supply is an integral part of the protective relay where the current shares a common input between the monitoring and power circuit and the voltage input is common to both the power supply and any metering circuits contained within the protective relay.
